So I have a 2016 Tacoma off road with 48,000 miles and this morning the stereo decided to stop working. Screen backlight will occasionally turn off and on but no images on screen besides when I go into reverse. Back up camera does seem to be working but when I shift back into drive, no response from stereo. Called Toyota and told me to do a hard press on power button to reset and still didn’t do anything. Checked 2 fuses correlating to radio and do not look blown. Have ran out of ideas to try and avoid Toyota’s hefty price for a diagnostic check. Can anyone help???

Go to the battery fuse box and pull the radio fuses

give it a minute or two, then put them back and turn the truck back on. If it still doesn’t work right, the radio is shot. Your options would be replacement from Toyota (I think they quote something like $2300) or a replacement used from a member here or eBay or similar (much less than Toyota) or go aftermarket

You can try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and reconnecting. It's as "hard" a reset as you can get with the stereo. Most likely it's just gone bad. Stereo issues tend to be the reason the Tacoma is no longer ranked on top for initial quality.

You can either upgrade to an aftermarket stereo or send yours to a shop like United Radio for repair: https://www.unitedradio.com/automotive-electronics/repair-and-remanufacturing/ Repair rate is around $100 + cost of parts and return shipping.

Forgot to mention I tried disconnecting battery as well but only disconnected negative. Should I disconnect both negative and positive as well? Don’t understand how it could of gone bad just like that.

    Yeah negative is fine

vehicles are very harsh environments for electronics. Extreme heat inside the dash in the summer. Super cold in the winter. Lots of vibration. some people get lucky and radios last a while. Sometimes or doesn’t go that way.
toyota’s going to charge $100+ to tell you “yep, it’s broke”
I’ll sell you my OEM for $400 shipped lol

Keep in mind that blown fuses don’t always look blown. Try changing all that may connect to the radio

The entune radios do fail, rarely in warranty, once they freeze nothing ever works.

I recommend aftermarket if that’s the case.
