Tire Balancing

What would you expect to pay to have your tires balanced?
The place I bought my tires from balances them for free every 2500-5000 miles. They've balanced them twice and I'm still not certain they did the job correctly. Might need to look elsewhere for balancing and I'd like to know what a fair price is.

 

IDK for sure where else to go, but I have always bought my tires at Discount Tire for all my vehicles. I can tell you they have a difficult time balancing the tires on my Tacoma and many times I have been back for a re-balance because I was getting small vibrations. I know my truck well since I have owned it since new and have 245K miles on it. They have told me they have issues with many Toyota products including Tacoma's, 4Runner's and FJ's due to the large hub diameter while balancing on the machines they have, which I believe is Hunter.

 

I use the dealer for tire mounting and balancing; $20/tire, mounted and balanced. I'd expect just a balance to be $10-$15/tire.
They use a fitted collet and lug mounting plate; not a cone collet and clamping hood.
Tires are BFG KO2 LT265/75/16/E with 31,000 miles on the original balance...

 

I have a Hunter road force balance appointment at Toytec Lifts in Denver on 9/24 to hopefully correct a vibration around 65 MPH. I was quoted $125 which will include breaking the bead and rotating the tires on the wheel if required. I’ll post the results. Tires are Continental Terrain Contacts with about 4K miles.

 

I want to say discount tire is $80 to balance all 4 but you're paying for lifetime rotation/balance

 

Seems a bit high. Discount is usually about $80 and if the tires need to be broken down to spin on the wheel that’s just part of the process should pay more to have that done.

 

Roughly $15 a tire is what I've paid in the past.

 

Thanks for the advise/replies. I got so sick of the way the truck was riding I just googled "tire balancing shops" in the town I was in, and called the two with the highest ratings. Lucked out. The shop did an excellent job at balancing my tires. They were running a special on balancing/rotating tires that week. $40.00 out the door. Since then, I've put about 200 miles on the truck. Color me happy.

Yeah. I felt like it was a pretty good deal.

 

sometimes its the difference in how they balance the tires the aluminum rims need to be balanced from the lug holes(lug centric) and the steel rims are balanced on the bore hole. The cone they use will fit the steel rims perfectly and with the Aluminum rims the cone is a little smaller cause the bore is slightly bigger this can throw off the balance enough to cause slight vibes. The adapter that Toyota recommends called A Haweeka adapter will use the Lug holes to balance instead of the bore hole in the center.

 

Whatever they did, it rides pretty good now.

 

Got the road force balance done at Toytec yesterday. The charge was $70. The 65mph vibration is gone.
