I do not live in one of the states covered by the recall, but my 13 has terrible frame rust and suffered a snapped leaf a few years back. The truck was registered and driven in NY before I bought it, am I somehow eligible?

Is California omitted from this recall?

Lately the trend has been, "I have an '05 Taco that has giant rust holes. Toyota says I'm too late." The next trend will be in 2022 when people say, "I just bought this '12 Taco and now I see that the frame has giant rust holes. Toyota says it's not covered because the previous owner didn't get the CRC treatment within the 2 year window. Am I sol?"

    I think you are correct.

I don't know what I will do yet as I Fluid Film the snot out of mine as it is...but I don't want to fall into the situation you describe.

Cali isn't on the list but I called my local dealer in NC (also not on the list) and he no questions asked entered my VIN and scheduled me for an appointment. I looked over my frame again and am thinking they won't find a perforation but I'd like to at-least get it looked at cause it's pretty gnarly for a 13.

On Monday my service advisor told me to stop spraying my truck so it can rust and they can replace it

You should be good since your proactive with the FF. It you don’t have any rust and you keep up with it.
Why would you want that gumbo sprayed on you frame. There’s many people that regretted it later, just do a search. Don’t be afraid not to do it.

I received a call by the dealership that sold me my 2011 (used). She informed me about the recall was extended and got me in for an inspection first thing tomorrow morning. I never got any letter in the mail informing me of this however.

I don’t think that there is anything wrong with the frame besides some light surface rust, but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

That’s what I’m thinking, nope not going to “stop taking care” of my frame.

extra leaf springs on 2012. Topper on 2015.
I own a 2012 & 2015, haven't gotten a letter on this. Lost my 1st Toy 1980 to a rusted out frame! But lived on Martha's Vineyard(salt air), & it lived it's last 4 yrs at The Ferry parking lot.

I love Toyota and especially the Tacoma but WHY can't they get this frame rust issue fixed? I lost my beloved 2000 Taco to frame rust, and now nearly 20 years later it's still an issue.

My 2010 is holding up fine so far but it does have the CRC on it. That stuff is a mess but I generally like it, since it seems to prevent rust very well. No reason that 3rd gen trucks would still suffer from this. Totally absurd that they can't fix this.

Toyota is the best auto maker and they definitely CAN solve the frame rust problem. Why don't they????

For what's it's worth... went through this with my '06, waited until the last year of the campaign, frame was replaced along with the springs, if you go at beginning of campaign you may wait months for parts and tech learning curve, go at end of campaign and all that may ne circumvented, mine was in and out in 6-days with zero problems but ya gotta stay alert to the dates, the coating is crap and regrettable from all I've read here but ya gotta wait until you got that perforation (a hole in frame big enough to stick a screw driver in), got all new shocks/struts done at cost only for parts. Feels like a new truck (is it wrong to leave the new white labels on the new black frame) (is that false advertising)? See post#7
