Seriously doubt the tundra is getting 27mpg.

Dude, good luck getting a few more MPGs out of your rig, but don't compare your figures to fantasy numbers. No way your buddy is actually getting 27. When I owned a Tundra, I wouldn't have been able to get 27MPG out of it coasting downhill with a tailwind and the engine off. Granted mine was a first gen which was the piggiest of them all, but I have a buddy with a current-gen and he's never once seen the sunny side of 20 on a tank.

It's gotta be instant MPG or lies. The 3UR-FE is known for a lot of things, but not for its good fuel economy.

Lose the CAI. Cold air is more dense, so you get more O2 per volume of air. The computer will match the O2 to fuel. So your throttle plate will be more closed, making more resistance in the intake.

Alignment, avoiding using the brakes and(they turn distance into brake dust and heat, limiting the speed you accelerate too, and trying to avoid lower gears will all help.

YEP...'twixt "height, width, tread style...they will all factor in to MPG's. Mine is a '13 4x4 with 245's..street tires, as I call them, were getting 23 mpg..ramped up to a more aggressive tread, same size and lost 2 mpg all because of "Rolling Resistance". Fair price for traction when ya need it most. The weight of added rubber to larger tires, the tread design all factor into the performance and MPG's.

I dont think I'm asking for a lot with wanting only 19mpg according to websites it should get 23 highway 19 city
So I'm gonna lose the CAI
    Change plugs
    Change diff oil to synthetic
And look into getting smaller tires that are light

What about a mesh tailgate what's yalls opinions on this

By the time you spend all that money trying to reclaim a mpg or two you’d have spent more than you could save. Buy a civic if you want good gas mileage.
Even if you do get back to 19 mpg, you’d only save ~$600 a year. Diff fluid and plugs probably won’t make any difference at all. Lightweight tires will, but do you plan in ever taking the truck off road?

So its a 2wd and yes that mileage is bad so do as the guys above said. Go back to stock intake (or get the tune), clean the MAF using electronic spray or brake cleaner, put in a clean air filter, then maybe change the plugs (and check wire resistance if someone yanked on them). Yes tires are a factor too and also the size so your mpg calc is off as they said. Toyota mpg stats are on a track ideal conditions but my 2009 4wd gets an honest 18mpg with up to 20 if I keep it under 70. Loads or towing it sucks gas load dependent avg is 14 but saw 10 towing 6000 lbs. Remember that 10% ethanol drops mpg about 10%. For fun drop in a tank of ethanol free and see a 2 mpg increase but that does not offset the cost increase. The only other area to consider is the drivetrain like wheel bearing front/rear and is your trans dropping into 5th and the converter locking up? You can see the rpms drop a few hundred as that converter locks.

I also had to laugh at the Tundra mileage as they have the worst mpg of all full size trucks and 13-15 avg would be my guess maybe 18 highway. The only true mpg is fill, drive, refill and do the math.

I ran fn 16" Countersteer rims and Hancook dynapro ATMs for a combined weight of 56lbs @40psi for best gas mileage (22-23mpg at best). I just replaced them with a 80lb setup and dropped to 17-18mpg.

I think it's your tires/wheels and CAI. Also make sure you are doing your math correctly.

Seriously can you do math at 375 per tank if you ran it dry and put 21 gallons in that’s just short of 18mpg. If you take into consideration the 4% tire difference and some other factors you probably a averaged on that tank 19 or 20.

I have a 2012 as well, but mine is 4wd. very rarely use 4wd except in New England snow storms that I have to go somewhere, or to get out of my driveway in the winter. I had the exact same 2005 model down to the color, and the 05 got better mileage by a little. Overall, I am getting pretty consistent 20mpg. I figure about 30% city driving per tankful. My truck is stock, no lift and just replaced OEM tires (Brigestone) at 86k. I do have a bed cover.

    Too few to list.
I have a 2015 on 265/75R16's C load Duratracs. They're around 45lbs each with my wheels just being under 24lbs a piece. I use an Ultragauge to track my mileage along with miles and gas fill up. I get around 350 miles on 18.5 gallons pretty consistently. I drive normal and staying at 70 on the highway. I'm also 4x4 auto with light armor. Factory air box as well. I change my plugs every 30K and clean my maf and throttle body annually.
