That sucks. Thanke the bulb out. ;)

I know they say the force protocol doesn't work but have you tried forcing the 9141 protocol? Go to the version menu & see what protocol that's deteced. If it doesn't say 9141 maybe it it might work? There's rumors saying they might have changed OBD communications for 04s. I've mentioned this before but I don't think anyone has actually tried it.

Wow, by a long shot too! :p

Hit up Senior Tacorojo & see if he still got it for sale. Good deal he was asking for.

Yup I'd be happy even paying $100 for it.

I was worried about that too, but driving around today it didn't seem too bad. Guess I'll have to wait until next summer for some more 100 degree days to really test that out.

I think that's a good idea but you might want to do some research first, I'll explain in a bit.

I believe it's pin 14 & not 16, according to the info posted on TTORA. The dude on TTORA disconnected 6 & 14, 6 is for the air bag & there hasn't been any reports of SRS issue. I posted info here: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-tacomas/111669-abs-light.html#post2153065

If your pretty mechanically inclined you could just extract pin 14 from the OBD connector & reinsert it whenever you need to get SMOG. Pretty easy if you know what your doing. I say this because I heard it's "illegal" to modify the OBD harness for SMOG reasons. I guess it would depend on the SMOG technician on whether you might have an issue or not.

Interesting. I haven't had a channce to look at the specs for the OBDII port standard. Have you & is thete where you got pin 16? I'll check it out one day if I get a chance if no one else figures out a solution.

Did you just pull it out with some pliers? Yeah let us know if all the gauges still work properly. If not I'm gonna have to sell mine.

    Try this:

Plug it in once the truck is started. Since the truck is already on, the UG should recognize the correct protocol. Do the Force Current option, then restart the truck to see if the ABS comes on.

Awesome, thanks a ton! So doing that doesn't bother the workings of the truck any, as far as the ecu goes? Did you just leave pen hanging there once you unplugged it, or did you tape it or something?

No it would not because it's just a diagnostic port, it will have no affect on the ECU's functionality unless of course that exposed extracted pin shorts on something. Only have to worry about it when it comes time for a SMOG check.

So now that snobord552 has confirmed that this will work for the UG as I suspected as it did for the SG, here's a solution far all of you with the ABS issue that do not wish to modify the OBDII port.

Get an OBDII port extension cable like this: http://www.amazon.com/OBD2Cables-144201-OBD-Extension-Cable/dp/B000SBCHCA (you can also find them on ebay).

Then modify this cable to disconnect pin 14, plug it into the OBD port & the UG & your set.
