I'm hoping someone can figure out what's going on with my truck, its like she possessed. An example would be at a stop light, where I would hold the clutch in and put it in 1st gear and let my foot off the brake, just waiting behind other cars. After about 20 seconds the truck will start moving as if I let out the clutch pedal (even thou my foot is fully pressing down on the clutch and I'm on flat pavement) or the truck will sometimes die.
If I have to pull out of a stall in reverse, almost every time I can't let the clutch out fully because the truck is going too fast to slow down and I can't move the gear shifter out of reverse. It's in there very firm (I have to hit it hard to release it) and If I hold the clutch in too long, again the truck will die. I really hope this makes sense because I have never had any problems like this before she has always ran great. I plan on taking it back to the shop that worked on it next week just trying to get more info because they said it was a bad pressure plate problem. Thanks, Thomas

I am guessing this started with the clutch replacement??

Do you smell the clutch getting hot at all ??

Sounds like things are not adjusted correct or it is possible some parts were boxed wrong.

Clutch master cylinder is probably bypassing. Have someone hold the clutch down and watch the slave cylinder on the side of the transmission bell housing. See if it slowly moves in by itself.

Yep, sounds like you're losing hydraulic pressure somewhere in the system. Master cylinder or slave cylinder, or some point in between.

If you had a shop work on the clutch, I would take it back to them and show them what it's doing. Has the clutch fluid level dropped at all in the reservoir?

Appreciate the feedback, this problem was there before I had the work done 2 weeks ago and no I have not noticed any odd smell from the clutch and the clutch pedal feels fine when I need to change gears except for the obvious problem I stated above. I'll have to check those fluid levels this weekend, wouldn't they top these off though?

Here's an update to this ongoing problem, so I finally got it in today to have the slave clutch master cylinder replaced as it was not when they did the clutch and the pressure plate in Aug. Picked up the truck at 5:30 and it seemed the same. The work was done as I can see that new parts were put on and however its still doing the same thing. I was in an empty parking lot, I put it in 1st gear and held in the clutch - after about 20 to 30 seconds it will just engage and start taking off even though I still have the clutch pedal all the way to the floor. I have never come across this problem before, its not leaking any fluid, not burning anything, all the fluid levels are full, (master cylinder under the hood looks fine and is full). It just wants to take off on its. And if I hold the brake down while I hold the clutch in while its in gear, it will obviously stall out and die. I really wouldn't want to take it to a Toyota service center and pay full price however its looking like I may have to at this point.
If anyone has anymore ideas about this, I would really appreciate where to look next- thanks.

Slave clutch master cylinder? Clutch master cylinder or clutch slave cylinder or both replaced?

You just paid to have the clutch slave cylinder installed??

It seems this problem is never resolved and your paying to have this done!!!!

I would take this up with who put the parts in.

Did they not drive the truck?? How could they not notice this issue ??

The rubber hose might balloon over a few seconds allowing things to move enough the truck will move and stall with your foot on the brake.

If none of the other hydraulic parts are leaking internally .

usually these are replaced as a pair, the master and the slave as they wear together. Each to his own driving style... I put my manual trans in neutral and release the clutch when I sit at a stop, easier on the throw out bearing.

I was that style of driving about 45 years ago.

Seems to hold out quite well

Wow that is weird and scary. I would find out what clutch they used and not one of the cheapy ones off the shelf at the auto parts store. If the slave cylinder and master were replaced and are working correctly I wonder is something is faulty with the pressure plate??? Although not sure if that could do that and engage on its own. just thinking out loud. Hope you get it fixed that would freak me out.
