We’ve been car shopping lately and bmw is the only manufacturer we know of with wireless CarPlay (wife has it in hers). Cadillac guy told us it has to do with the way bmw integrates phones with their safety systems or some such. Not really sure myself, but they are the only ones we’ve seen so far.

For a laugh, you can get a price for the 2016 to 2019 HUs in the Parts section of Toyota.com . Add some $$ to that and boom, if you can stop laughing long enough.

bmw also charges a subscription for carplay which is ridiculous but I guess that’s what happens when you have a “luxury” vehicle. Gotta get that recurring revenue stream, as if repairs aren’t costly enough. It’s no wonder people keep them for a year or two. I’d hate to be the sucker that buys a used one like my buddy who thought he got a great deal and had $7500 in repairs in a year of ownership

Yep, Bimmers aren’t known for holding their value by many standards, but we’ve had good luck with ours. Early model X3 went 9 years (and only 85k miles though) without needing a repair other than a window motor. Current X4M has been solid for 9k miles and 2 years (she doesn’t drive them much, everything is local for her).

    Thanks!

I had lusts for both at different times. Never brought one home though. We've had enough struggles with Swedes, Italians, and a Russian. Hahahaha!

    whoosh

the point is these trucks have vibration issues already but they get worse when people mod the suspension. Mentioning vibrations to the stealership will get you the classic “you must have modified it somehow and your warranty is now void”

he’s joking that making any changes including the infotainment system would get you a big warranty void sticker lol

Well, then you did have a BMW, sir. That URAL is straight '37 BMW R71. Love to see my motherland products on American streets. Seen Ural twice, was excited!

    Hahahaha!

Every time I ran into someone from Russia, including the day that I bought it, they'd always laugh at me and ask why.

It is was a killer ride when running. I miss the goof handling.

Yeah, the price of that thing is atrocious on this side of the pond. Pretty unique, though, so here is that :)

Yeah. The price sucked, but I did well on the sale considering all the rebuild work. The 2wd and reverse were killer features though.

There are a lot here in the PNW and another strong contingent in the NE.

I'm going with no, not that easy.

My thinking is because a lot of other systems work through the head unit.
I suspect it would be similar to when I did it to my jetta. Took the head unit navigation out of the highest trim jetta and put it in mine. Had to change one of the computer modules under the dash as well though. Otherwise it caused battery drain. and that was from a 2006 VW and putting a 2009 head unit in it.

I'm thinking would be the exact same that theres other modules within the car that communicate with the head unit and if you just swap it for a newer one it wont work without changing said modules, and then you'd likely need techstream to do all the programming.
