    Car camping?

Have some Teton bags off Amazon that zip together. Rated for 0.

Downside is that the joining zipper is in the middle of your and your significant other.

For car camping? You aren’t going to find something cheap you can carry on your back.

    I know ... NOT ZERO.
But I love these bags. https://www.coleman.com/dunnock-cold-weather-sleeping-bag/2000004457.html
Roomy warm and the zipper is on the edges. Add a blanket on top if you need.
    Easy to clean, inexpensive.

    Or get Western Mountaineering bags.

The Teton double wide zero degree bag is awesome for 2 people in an RTT, car camp setup, or a tent if you have a good pad beneath you. It's an amazing bag for 1 person in below freezing weather because you can double it up and have tons of insulation. No middle zippers to deal with. In the summer, i just lay on top if it like an extra pad.

I can vouch for the Teton as well. We used them and Alps for the client gear in the wilderness program I worked for for a few years. If it can hold up to clients beating the hell out of them, it can hold up to you guys using it for car camping

    The Coleman is 34.99 x 2.

The strongest down side is the bellows effect that pushes a lot of warm air from the bags

It can be mitigated with a blanket stuffed in between, but it really detracts from the whole "sleeping with someone you want to be close to" thing

Zipped-together sleeping bags are rookie moves, anyways. Too much heat is lost in zippers, and they're uncomfortable to sleep against/on/under etc. Get a single large bag or go with layered full-size bedding.

Don’t get two sleeping bags to zip together get a two person sleeping bag.
Big Agnes makes 15 degree two person bags that weigh three pounds.
I use a north face 25 two person sleeping bag all winter long in Utah and stay plenty toasty

Same. Good quilts for backpacking are still plenty useful in the RTT. I got used to relying on quality down quilts to stay warm in the leanest and coldest places. I always have 2 extra wool blankets in my RTT as well. Been below zero in just shorts and been more than toasty.

    I disagree.
I have Western Mountaineering bags I zip together, and those issues are present with that system. We prefer not to zip them together.

The Big and Tall Coleman Dunnock bag is 'loose' enough that there is not a huge air gap between people.
    It works.

I think my next sleeping bag will be a Western Mountaineering Kodiak MF. It’s on the pricey side for sure.... o_O

Question for those of you that have done some camping in Colorado (or the mountains out west, in general).

Im taking two weeks to hunt elk south of Montrose CO from Oct 16-27th. I was a wilderness guide in the NC mountains for years and have plenty of experience with gear, backpacking, etc. However, I have zero camping experience out west. Ive rocked the same MountainHardwear Lamina 20 since I began guiding in 2010. On the cold nights (I've been down to -1) I simply added one of the Sea-to-Summit thermo liners to bring my bag temp down to 0. Its looking like we could be camping in Colorado in temps down to the single digits (maybe lower since the forecast doesn't project to the end of the month). Is the cold out west the same as it is on the East Coast or should I quit being a tightwad and buy another sleeping bag. Problem with coughing up enough money to buy a zero is that it will likely get used a maximum of once a year and that is being generous. I sleep hot and typically that lighter bag works just fine for me.

    Thoughts?

Also @2Toyotas how long have you had that truck? I am pretty sure I saw you often when I was still living in the Waynesville area and guiding in the mountains.
