Not saying to buy this but here is a quote from below:
    https://www.urdusa.com/urd-2005-tacoma-v6-fuel-pumpfilter-upgrade-kit/
"The small in-tank fuel filter appears to become clogged in less than 30,000 miles restricting fuel flow resulting in insufficient flow/volume reaching the fuel rail."
Did you run the tank pretty low frequently or use fuel from an older gas station?
Ive read dropping the tank and reinstalling is 2-3 hour job.
Here is another link you should definitely read.
    https://www.toyotanation.com/threads/2006-tacoma-problems.899625/
I have no experience with this personally, just trying to help and offer other suggestions, Id drop the tank next.

Thanks for the heads up and extra info. Yes I frequently ran the truck with little fuel in it. Money was tight for a while so the low fuel light pretty much stayed on 24/7 for a year probably. The truck also has 270,000 miles so I wouldn’t doubt if the filter was clogged or the pump is weak.
