Shock replacement

    6” lift 35x12.50 Lear topper rhino rack fab4 bumpers rigid lights bed slide
    Im new to Tacoma world and need some help. I bought a 16 last year with a pro comp 6” lift. Not a fan of pro comp but I love the truck. Front coil overs are leaking fluid. Well anyhow I want to replace them. In sitting with a 6 inch lift on 35’s. First how do I determine the correct length shock and what’s my best shock without maxing the ole credit card?

    I'm not a suspension expert at all, but I don't think Bilstein makes that combo in a length for your 6" lift. People will correct me if I'm wrong for sure. But, he is right about contacting Headstrong. They will be able to answer any questions you have..

    Contact ProComp customer service on the phone to find out how it's setup. It might be a stock height strut setup, but with big ole spacers on top, then you would be free to get a replacement to fit in there. Or maybe a 2" to 3" lift and then with spacers.

    But I strongly suggest you go to the source.

    For me any 2.5" diameter shock (with external reservoir) which can be taken apart and rebuilt/re-valved is what should be going on your truck.

    For a truck that is well over 3,000lbs, a smaller 2.0" shock makes no sense to me at all. You can probably boil off the shock oil within 30 min of a good thrashing. skip 3:30min:



    Also dialing in the dampening can be done correctly with a re-valve. The tools and experience needed for shock maintenance and tuning is very simple. Shocks for trucks/buggies are a lot more simple to take apart vs a moto or mtn bike shock. Re-valving will cost less than a dollar worth of shock shims, and rebuild kits typically are around 20 bucks for all the o rings and seals. Shock oil can be 30 bucks or so, but if you like just fill it back up with ATF, power steering fluid, or some other oil which is the same wt. and temp ratting. When you need to recharge your shocks with nitrogen most tire shops will do it for free. It is not as difficult as people think.
