Want to remove my sway bar from my Tacoma. I currently run stage ICON shocks with Res & CDCV. It’s my understanding the shocks come with 650lb rated coils.

Want to see what people’s opinion is on removing the sway bar with my ICON shocks?

I get it....about the body roll thing. I don’t drive my car like a sports car. I figured I’d give it a try and see what the difference on, on road and off road driving.

Ps: I’m also going to install an aluminum bumper and winch so there will be front end weight.

I've taken my sway bar off for a while and it feels like the suspension is working as a suspension should. When I hit pot holes, manholes whatever, only that wheel/side would accommodate that. When you have the sway bar in, my whole truck pretty much moved. I prefer no sway bar but had to throw it back in

Take it off will perform way better in the dirt. I had icons and made a huge difference.
With the added weight I’d leave those on till you see if it sags. If it’s to much add some preload if your still not happy get 700lbs springs.

This has been hashed out many times over here. Remove it, if you don't like the ride then put it back on.

My sway bar has been sitting on the floor of my garage since 2015.

There was a time when I would say you’ll never notice.
Then, I had to make a hard swerve to avoid and accident.
I really do believe the sway bar saved me that day from rolling my truck.
Maybe if I could have maneuvered the truck better, the sway bar should not have mattered.
But under panic and stress, I pulled the wheel one way. Then right back the other to miss a big drop off on the shoulder of the road. That’s why I am of the opinion that, leave it on if you can.
You can always take it off when going off road.

You do what ever you want to, just be careful and stay aware out there on the road.

    Nice truck, BTW.

Also something to note is, if someone else ever has to drive your truck, would they be a good enough driver to not freak out about the body roll especially during a "moose manuever". I don't trust many to drive my truck let alone someone to drive it without a sway bar especially if they are not used to it

It’s too bad no one has come up with a quick disconnect for Tacomas

Problem is when the link is disconnected, the bar destroys the CV boots. I think the best method I've seen is the actual bar cut into 2 peices and locked into place during driving, but its clunky.

If I offroaded once a month or more, I would remove the bar.

Ive had no issues, mine been off 6 months or so. It does get a little squirley breaking around 70mph.

Ive got kings with 650lb coils and arb bumper with winch.

Body roll isnt too bad either. Just makes you drive a little slower.

    More than I can afford
I didn't notice it at all when I test drove our new truck.
Asked the seller if it still had the front sway and he said no.

Icons, 700lb front springs, steel winch bumper, front skid and winch.

I tend to drive in a pretty spirited way (my daily is an X-Runner), not having the front bar on the 4x4 with the right spring rate and coils adjusted well is a non issue.

Badass with it off and aftermarket coilovers. way better than stock config and I drive my truck like a sportscar, i think stock it was worse on road.

OP-there's one way to find out: take it off and try it. It's a couple bolts. If you don't like the way it rides, slap it back on. Just be careful because it will change the behavior of the truck.

My trucks haven't had sway bars in a few generations. I drive mountain passes with fast, sweeping corners often, but having the sway bar off makes the truck corner noticeably different than stock. I feel like I'm used to it after all this time, but I wouldn't take it off my wife's truck...ever.

OP, I DO drive my truck like its a sports car with the swaybar removed.

Seeing as you have the adjusters on your shocks you will be able to tune the truck back to driving perfectly well without the swaybar in.

As far as extra weight is concerned, youll be fine with the 650lb coils. I have 700lb coils installed in my Fox coilovers and they are overkill, and I have a comparable amount of extra weight up front to an aluminum bumper on a stock truck. Id say stick with the coils you have now, rip that swaybar out, and then get your shocks tuned just right so you cant even tell. Youll get a lot better cornering grip that way as the wheels can actually move individually the way they are supposed to. It is much more comfortable without the swaybar. You will get some extra roll but with aftermarket coils and shocks its nowhere near as bad as some people will have you believe. Ive never felt like I was in any real danger of rolling over FWIW
