Been in my garage since the 80’s I think. Used it once the bug and tar remover from the 60’s rotted through the bottom of the can last year.

Caustic chemicals I suppose. EPA probably banned them 20 years ago but they worked. Yeah, maybe your kids came out with gills and pods but the bugs cleaned of the car with minimal effort.

Turns out replacing a speedo cable on a first gen is kind of a giant pain in the ass.

Also turns out the part of the exhaust manifold closest to the firewall stays hot enough to burn the shit out of you for quite some time.

On the plus side, I've gotten pretty quick at tearing my dash apart over the last few days.
    Thank god for ground clearance.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
    Great weekend!

Made camp. Weather was a bit ominous.

Saw some of the signs we were looking for on our first (short) evening hunt.

    Clouds looked a bit harsh.

Had a great dinner the first night. (notice the white stuff on the ground)

    Had freezing rain then snow.

Everything looked a bit different the next morning.

    Found the Mountain's butthole.

And the Nightmare Before Christmas tree.

    And a snow flower

Tent was amazing... even with snow and freezing rain, I was toasty as hell.

And we took a nice ride this morning after we broke camp, before we came home

And the prep for the next trip begins.

Bear/Deer... and if I see a yote, it immediately turns in to a coyote hunt.

Nice. I dont care much for the yotes neither. Never been much of a hunter myself, always found competitive target shooting more fun.

Most of the experience, for me, is the hiking, searching, reading sign, spending time on the trail and in camp with the wife.

Don't get much of any of that shooting at targets.

Oh... I TOTALLY hear that. lol

Public land hunting in California doesn't really lend it's self to stand hunting.

I guess it would be a whole different ball game out there. Deer hunting out here for the most part is sitting in a stand on the edge of a farm plot for a few hours every morning. Even the public gamelands are farmed to a degree. Dove hunting is about the only hunting Ive done and walked away from feeling like I accomplished something and had fun.

I could probably stand hunt occasionally (if I found myself in an area where that is what it's about).

But I couldn't do it all the time.

There's just something special about the way we hunt. (for me)

Normally do... they weren't all that big. Hind track was about 2 inch shorter (length) than my size 11 boot.

how far away from CA do you usually venture?

i am considering completing the Lake Superior circle tour on the Canadian side during the winter (have done most of it on the USA side), but I don't think I am yet prepared to handle the frigid temps way up north plus the massive amount of lake snow they can get.

There are some good sized black bears here.

A 310 lb bear was taken, opening day, last year, around 3.5 miles away from where I took that picture. And a 400 lb bear was taken in this zone this year, opening week (not sure where).

But now that they banned hunting with dogs a few years ago we are having a major problem with bear. I'm finding a bunch of scat with berries mixed with fur... and the fawn numbers are WAY down this year.

If I see a bear bigger than a bull mastif, I'm punching my tag.

Truck traveling, we've pretty much stayed in CA to this point. We are planning a trip to CO next (early) summer to see my youngest son... stationed at Ft Carson CO.

Not sure what route we're going to do. But I'd like to hit Grand Canyon and some other stuff on the way.
