I like the trope. Keeps expectations low, and when I present the skill, it has that wow factor. That’s how you clinch all three judges on America’s got talent

Yes, a Juki DNU-1541S. Did all the research years ago on what kind of machine I needed to sew heavy Cordura. Spent a little time looking for a used machine, conclusion was better off just buying NEW versus the headaches with a used machines. Cry once buy once.

At some point I'm going to build a large cut/material support table 180° around my machine. That rack under cover ( post #144 ) was the largest thing I've ever made, but by no means the most complicated.

This was the most complicated, I had almost 40 hours of build into that one. I made this one for my brother, I've got the material to make myself one in Coyote just haven't had the time to sit down and dedicate weekends worth of work.

This is a "covert rifle backpack" and just as the name implies very very very few people would even have a clue what's inside when seen wearing.

Interestingly it's patterned after a 20+ year old "Made in the USA" JanSport backpack I used in college. Other than the OD color it's very benign looking.

This is the kind of bag that stays at home until the streets aren't safe to travel without a rifle.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Almost forgot, made this for my brother to carry in his covert backpack. He's ready for the SHTF ;)

Really is outstanding. For me, the purpose of making your own stuff is to have something just the way you want it. Everything “off the shelf” is a mass marketed compromise in some way and though it will do ok for the purpose it isn’t always “just right” for you. Sometimes you can get stuff like that way cheaper than you can make it though. I call that “materials” and don’t have any problem ripping brand new stuff apart, modifying it, and making it something else that works.

Wait a minute... did I actually just mention mods on TW?!

Like everything else though it’s a sickness! Leads to making other stuff... guitars, fly rods, boats, violins... my wife has a hobby too - patience!

I was in the trade of auto upholstery in the 90's. Convertible tops, custom upholstery, boat covers.

Also at that time I was NAGA certified. 2 trades that went well together.

That’s pretty much what she ended up with once she found out what the poles I was busy making were for. Now they are gone too! She likes it but not sure how much wind it will take. I see repairs in my future now as well...
