Inside roof bungee net

If you didn't get the net thingy as an accessory for your topper but added one later, what did you get and how did you attach it? I was thinking maybe making some paracord loops and screwing them under the inside bolt caps and then just using a net with hooks to attach and take off but not sure if it would be too loose and floppy. Probably need to find the right size to keep the loops taut.

 

Some Hillman D-ring picture hangers mounted under the plastic nuts that hold the Yakima tracks on (ex https://www.lowes.com/pd/Hillman-4-Pack-D-Ring-Large-Picture-Hangers/3029190) and a Harbor Freight net that was like $7. It's a little looser than I'd like though so I may put some hog rings on it to tighten it up.

 

Thanks. That seems more finished and stable than my original thought. I assume you only use one of the screw holes.

 

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. What net is that?

 

I did the same thing for a while. Went through 2 nets because they stretch so much, even with light items.

Stick well and can stow a jacket or small items without the drooping.

 

Yep the hole opposite the D ring since the plastic Yakima nut thing is too large to work with the other hole. I did have to open the hole up a little but that's no big deal, just grab it with a pair of Vice Grips and use a step drill bit. I honestly don't use it as much as I thought I might though since I like all of my head room.

 

Does these stay stuck pretty well? Any issues with them falling?

 

They worked well for my shell. The ceiling carpet was thick, but I know some shells have pretty thin carpet.

Yes, as in I used the bolts drilled through for the Yakima roof tracks.

 

Same with mine, I used the plastic nuts that hold the tracks in place. Be extra careful not to turn the bolts themselves, just the nuts, or you will need to put more sealant in place. Probably not a bad idea to reseal if they've been in place for a while but silicon is notoriously difficult to get thoroughly cleaned so that new stuff will adhere.

 

Ok understood. Damn, unfortunately I dont have a roof rack and am scared to drill lol so I just found some strong velcro nets so hopefully that does the job!

 

Is your shell lined with carpet? If not and it's the usual chopper gun fiberglass you may be able to fiberglass some hooks onto it. They probably won't support a lot of weight but should be good enough for the typical items you'd put up there like clothes you're trying to dry or maybe bedding. Even if I drilled holes for mounts I wouldn't add a lot of weight since you'd be side loading the bolts in the fiberglass; the bolts would support the weight no problem but I would worry about wearing the fiberglass since it's typically not mat but strand.
