Part of it is that newer vehicles are designed with pedestrian safety in mind so manufacturers are intentionally making the front ends relatively "soft" and easily damageable to absorb more impact forces and mitigate injuries to pedestrians.

I'd post the pic of the turkey I hit with my former Ridgeline, but no one wants to see the "H" vehicle here ;)
Freakin' $3,400 in damage from a turkey...it tried to fly off the guard rail and lumbered right into my left headlamp...grill...hood...radiator.

How often does this happen? No deer on the island I live on, biggest wildlife you’d hit here is a raccoon.

Just got a call from the collision shop. So far they are at $11,529.43 but want to take the truck apart to get a final cost.

Normally I would be on my motorcycle, but wasn't because of the weather and snow we had!

Tied several boat anchors to my truck to destroy MPG.

unless the TSS could magically stop the truck on a dime there was nothing for it to do. that deer was in the road and in front of the truck in just a few seconds. TSS did go off, but there was no way to slow the truck enough even though I was only going 35-40 at the time.

Ah, that works. I thought the TSS didn't go off at all. At least it tried its best.

I hit a deer on my motorcycle. It sucked. But I didn’t lay it down thankfully.

To the folks saying that the new Tacoma supposedly doesn't do well in crashes because they saw pics of trucks that hit deer at high speed, you can't ignore the fact that the safety ratings on these new trucks are higher than they've ever been, in crash testing that's stringent as ever. They just crush more cosmetically for a number of reasons, mainly to absorb as much of the impact as possible and keep it away from the cabin.

Also to that guy who's wife smoked a deer in a RAV4 and "only had $1500 in damage," I'm guessing she wasn't going very fast, whereas OP and everyone else with pics on here were clearly on the highway.

I think this has to with the fact that most cars and small SUVs are made so that if they hit a pedestrian, they just go over the hood. The trucks aren't made that way, so the front end takes the entire brunt of the impact, creating more costly damage.

Actually, no. And it was a deer that ran in from the left, bounced off the front corned of the bumper without touching the bull bar...and ran away!

That's quite interesting. I guess they don't make them like they used to (obviously).
