Why are people still trying to convince the OP to change his mind?

True he won't admit he makes less than 384K a year, making his argument invalid.

What I’m still not understanding ...is that if he really makes that much scratch, it shouldn’t even matter what he or anyone else had to pay for a front brake job.

And the nuts and bolts of the whole fucking thing is that based on the service departments labor rate, they will charge you more in labor to resurface the rotors than it costs to replace them.
Because they make 60-70% on labor and maybe 30% on parts sales.

You also have to watch your paperwork and have some common sense about overlap.
0.5 hours to replace the pads
    1.0 to replace rotor
Guess what that 1.0 includes? Taking off the caliper...so does it take another 0.5 to replace the pads? No, maybe 5 min, not 30
Then they are going to get you for another 1.0 to “resurface” your rotors..when the guy sets it in the machine and walks away and gets paid to change the oil in someone else’s car while he waits for the rotor to finish getting cut.
Boom you now have 2.5hrs per side plus parts and your at 600 bucks.

You know the saying, and idiot and his money will soon part company.

This is actually a really good breakdown that would be very useful to someone who is not knowledgeable about the process, and would help with the OP's original question. Of course, OP got frustrated and went into Full D-bag Mode a while ago so I guess the shots you're throwing back are probably justified.

That said, some useful stuff here that is a good way to answer this kind of question.

Grandad always told me to never look down on the ditch digger. Any man that manages to keep his kids clothed and fed is an honorable man. And any man that earns a paycheck should hold his head with pride, no matter how many or how few commas are on that check.

Funny how I didn't start to appreciate that old fashioned nugget of wisdom until many years later.
