I camped all through there. There’s a cool lakeside spot. Obviously I forgot the name. You can also camp out in front of the long John silvers in pigeon forge, which I highly recommend. Lots of real life “livePD” plus hush puppies.

I just drove through there last weekend. Camped at the REEB ranch (for the i9 event), which is great if you mountain bike. GSM are nice the Elk are in rut now. Kinda cool to listen to them if you've never heard it.
Rained pretty damn hard the first night we were there....

I won't go near Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg,or Cherokee for any reason. Just too many people. Blue Ridge Parkway is nice as is many of the areas that you can access from it. We have been going to the Maggie Valley area for over 15 years, but it is more of a motorcycle destination and bikes are our thing. Look to the west a bit towards Bryson City and down towards Nantahala National Forest direction. Some nice out of the way campgrounds in the Waynesville area, some of them pretty well out in the sticks.

The parkway will be filled with blue hairs and tour buses for “leaf season” soon. Gets ridiculous. If you want to hit a trail east toward Asheville, there’s Hurricane Creek off I-40 just past the tunnel. Could also, go over by Boone/Grandfather MTN and hit Richland Road. If you want to camp and off-road just go to Windrock by Oak Ridge, TN. That place is the bomb.
