    Congrat-u-fucking-lations on the 2+ weeks.

If you have known or recently decided your an alcoholic/addict, and/or dont want to drink/use anymore but have not been able to stop on your own, you sir are doing one of the best things possible for yourself. Once you get out, getting into AA (NA, CA, Fucking A, whatever .. joke, ha) has helped millions of helpless alcoholics/addicts that couldn't get sober, despite their honest desire and countless attempts to do so, achieve and maintain sobriety.

Having support of friends and family is great, but if they are "normies", meaning they dont drink/use, drink/use responsibly and not in excess, or are hard drinkers/users that given the correct justification or reasoning to stop they can and do stop, it is hard for them to relate or understand, therefore it is hard for us to get the exact kind of support that we need. The magic comes from one alcoholic helping another.

From 13-34, I rarely drew a sober breath. Suprisingly, I still made it through school, found a career, and did well. From 24-34 due to shitty events followed by realizations, I tried to get sober over and over. Controlling the amount I drank/used was impossible despite countless attempts. I'm a fucking alcoholic who craves more (real biochemistry studies into how our enzymes break down alcohols into sugar differently compared to normies, creating a craving) and it is fucking Pringles "once I pop I cant stop". That never worked so I tried countless times to just not drink/use at all, well my mind would obsess over it to the point of insanity which would overpower all reasonable thinking. I never made it more than a couple days. Basically I was fucked, powerless. I had to get lit to function in society day to day. Dont get me wrong it was fun for a long time, until it wasn't and the fun times became more sporadic. It became just the norm and a necessity.

4 years ago I was where you are now. My wife was pregnant, so my desire to stop intensified, but i couldn't. Came to in jail, again, and I was lucky enough to end up in a rehab as a result. After getting through the terrible bitch of withdrawals I started listening. This was the first place in my life I met people who drank/used like I did, did the shit and felt like I did, couldn't stop like I couldn't, and I could relate to. The beautiful part is they were sober and happy. This is where my life changed. I got hope that if these fucking drunks could get sober and happy, than this fucking drunk (me) possibly could too. I was taught just to be willing to do the work (don't have to believe, etc) and do what they did. So I made the decision to do so and that hope kept me sober for a while. I got out, found my pack in AA, found an old timer to sponsor me, and did the deal (12 steps of AA). To my surprise it worked. I went through this "educational variety psychic change" (overtime, not a burning Bush moment) and that obsession in my mind dissapeared. This process provided me with the power to overcome my alcoholism. It gave me so much more though. I got to deal with alot of shit from my past I carried with me, realize how much of a selfish douchebag I was and had been, and have become less of a douchebag (work in progress). It is amazing the things that have happened since I got sober. My kids have never seen me loaded, I got the best job in the world, started my own company on the side, STARTED MY TRUCK BUILD, I am actually happy sober, and I have sponsored some young dudes and watched them get sober and their lives change which is so rewarding it is ridiculous.

So, If this fucking terrible undercover alcoholic opiate addict can do it, so can you. Give AA a shot. If the chapter the "Doctor's Opinion" describes you than you are in the right place.

By the way, besides people close to me and other alcoholics, I am not broadcasting this shit to the world, but in situations such as this (your post above) I truly hope this gives just a cunt hair worth of hope.

PM me anytime for my number.

Whatevers I apologize for this long ass thread, carry on.

I'd give this 20 more likes but it appears to be impossible. So, a heartfelt "Thank You" is in order instead.
