    Hi there,
I have a 2000 White Toyota Tacoma that has about 210,000 miles on it. It is a 5 speed manual transmission, with a 6 inch lift on it, paint has begun to crack on the hood, and the interior driver side seat has a chunk of cushion missing. I have loved my truck for the past 12 years that I have had it, but unfortunately it is needing a new head gasket, I am pregnant and with all things that are coming up, we wont have the time to put in to doing the repair work ourselves, and were quoted $2800 from the local shop here. So I think we are going to post it for sale. I was looking for advice on what I should ask for the truck being that it isn't in running condition at the moment. We are in the East Bay Area in California. Thanks for any advice, it is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to TW and good luck with your pregnancy! Can you post a few pics? In the meantime, a few things to think about:

-Exposure to salted roads or rust on the frame will reduce the price most will pay
-Double cabs fetch a higher price than single or extracab
-200k miles and a new head gasket isn't that big of a deal despite what some will tell you

If it needs a new head gasket that's going to greatly effect it's resale value....I would take whatever the 'fair' condition value is and subtract the estimated cost of the work your mechanic is quoting you, that might give you a good place to start from. But anyone looking at it is probably going to lowball their offer based on the head gasket issue.

The bad part since the truck can`t be road tested !

So many other things might be wrong .( Even when your up front and honest)

My luck it would never be just a simple head gasket

The 6" lift kit is only going to appeal to a select market .

It is going to be a project going in as most trucks that age are.

It comes down as always someone willing to pay.

I would say 3,000 is plenty fair, itll be hard getting more than that given that the head gasket is shot. Also depending on your guys’ circumstances, parting it out instead of selling the whole truck might be more profitable if you’re looking to squeeze every dollar out of it
