If we knew the gas mileage everyone else's Tacoma was getting we'd know if our Tacoma was average or has a problem. It'd also be interesting to see results of anyone's tried improving the gas mileage and their results. I searched for a thread like this but I couldn't find one. Please list the trucks pertinent options, any pertinent aftermarket doo hickies, tire size/diameter, and where the driving was done (ie: city, highway, off road, combined, etc...). If it's highway only it'd be beneficial to have an average speed, even if guestimated.

1996 Tacoma, V6, auto, 4WD, 2 1/2" front lift (areodynamics), tire diameter is 32.8 inches.

Traveled 271 miles in exactly 4 hours, all highway, used 16.4 gallons, 68 average mph, 16.5 mpg.

I did go over a huge mountain pass, called The Grapevine, but since what goes up must come down I don't have a clue how that would affect the mileage. The truck uses more gas going uphill but uses less downhill. ???

Drive cycle and technique can vary the mileage a lot. Tracking your own and monitoring the trend is far more informative for tracking vehicle than comparing a bunch of other rigs, being driven by different drivers, in different conditions.

For example, 2 drivers can cover the same length of highway, going the same average speed, but one is harder on the throttle then back on the brakes vs the other who feathers the throttle and lets it coast back down again. One will get much worse mileage than the other.

You're gonna want to average it over a longer period. I take a picture of the receipt with my phone next to my odometer when i get gas, then type it into a spreadsheet. Mixed MPG average is probably a little high, but I only tag a tank as hwy if it was all highway.

This is for a 2000 single cab 4x4 tacoma with the 2.7 and a 5 speed, 4.30 gears, 235/75/15 XTX Wild Country AT:

Wow, that's awesome! Simple to read and detailed. 24 mpg is definitely better than the '88 22RE 4WD 5speed that I had, with 33"'s. I think it was getting 21 mpg highway (only), it's been a decade or so since I built/owned it.

I have a 97 2.7l with 31s (factory from what I can gather) speedometer reads 1mph low at 25mph. Last trip I went on I used around 10.7gallons to go 176 miles. Came out to around 16.5mpg ALL HIGHWAY! After fixing a dirty maf sensor, air filter and faulty #1 o2 sensor I am now getting around 19.5mpg! This was on a mixed tank of mostly city driving. 149miles/7.6gallons. My truck's a 4wd as well. Just saw this thread is in the xrunner section for some reason?
