    I have mods
I've also seen old kegs converted to gas tanks. Another idea. You could have matching kegs, one for gas, one for showers. Just don't mix em up!

Had mine for a long time. Use my old vair compressor to pressurize it and a sink head sprayer for the nozzle. Cost me like $30 if that in parts haha

There is a guy here who put an aux tank in place where the spare usually goes. I don't remember what it was out of, but some domestic truck, iirc... which gave him like 20-30 more gallons.

That's definitely an advantage to jerry cans, but I could also imagine a jerry can getting torn off the bumper and spilling, too.

You definitely get more volume with an aux tank. I guess if you're looking to cross the Outback without stopping, I guess you'd do both...

I'm not an expert, but in theory the deleterious effects of ethanol on old rubber parts is directly related to how long they are in contact. So (again, in theory) if you only have the E10 gas in your truck for less than a day, it's probably not that bad... I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but then again it's not my Tacoma.

Jesus, and I think my wife's 20 mile commute is long.

If you are making this commute more than once a month, you need to just buy a Civic or something that get's actual good MPGs.

You never actually use ALL the fuel in your tank, even if you completely run out of gas. The other thing is that if this is a commute, it sounds like this would happen fairly regularly.

We can split hairs here all we want. I started a shit slinging post about how much 87 octane gas you are buying when you choose 93 on a pump that has multiple fuel grades and only one hose. That’s a whole different rabbit hole that I’m trying to avoid here. I commute 80 miles a day round trip, and my truck is now supercharged. Church is still out on my fuel mileage change, but I would love to be able to fill up just once a week, or less. I’d love going 600 miles between fill ups.

Well long range automotive was a bust. The good news is that they have partnered with a company in the us, and they have tanks in stock ready to ship out of CA. None available for the first gen though. $1595.00 plus shipping. I think I’ll look into retro fitting. Might just forget about it all together

I’ve not done this, but it’s basically my idea. I’m going ahead with a rear bumper with a swing out tire carrier to get the spare out from under the truck. I’m wanting to go with a bottom feed maybe 1/2” siphon line from the second tank to the original tank. Only other thing to figure out is venting, and filling. I don’t want to disrupt the evap system. I want to keep it simple, no aux fuel pump or anything like that. If I went with a transfer hose between the two tanks large enough to only use the primary fill tube, it would just be too big to go over the rear axle safely. I’ve just been brain storming, but it is on my upcoming project list.

I'm pretty sure that legally, you'd have to pump fuel from the aux tank into the main tank - having a gravity fed fuel tank would be dangerous. If I were to do it, I'd put in another fill port and have the aux tank pump into the filler neck of the main tank. Since the aux tank would only be 17gal and the main tank 21gal, you'd be able to pump the aux tank dry when the low fuel light came on.

The tank I linked is only 7" tall so should be able to tuck up in where the spare is no problem.

Here's the pump I've been looking at too

Not sure you'll need a transfer pump. The truck that did the suburban tank swap is a friend of mine. He never uses the pump since it just gets drawn in to the stock tank by itself like a siphon.

Also a cheaper solution is a Ford tank. Fits right between the frame rails perfect.

Which ford tank? I was wondering about a fox body mustang tank, if my memory serves me correct it should fit snugly.
Also legally speaking, we probably left that realm with the thought of adding a tank. Unless we follow exactly what the manufacturer has already done, and make sure rollover valves are in place and everything. Nothing has been crash tested either. Aft axle tanks are more dangerous period. Could be sitting in a bomb just waiting to get rear ended just the right way..

So this is what I came up with. It works, and is fairly cheap. The only drawback is extended filling times as the setup is currently. Took 15 minutes to fill. I started with two 7 gallon kobalt air tanks from Lowe’s. Welded them together, plumbed them together. Welded bungs on the bottom front of the tank so nothing will hang down. Flipped the tanks upside down, reinforced the feet that were welded to the bottom of the tank, attached 2” angle iron with bolts then welded to the angle iron to the old spare tire crossmember. I then knocked a hole in my truck main tank and threaded to 3/8” npt. I used 1/2” hydraulic lines for strength. Plumbed the vent of the auxiliary tank to the fill spout vent of the main tank. Done deal, just over 32 gallons of gasoline, plus my jerrycan. No pump, no mess, no problem. Just a simple siphon fill and siphon use. 0440DE4F-9F1C-48A7-A45D-0F94CEEA499E.jpg 677B4739-211F-412E-8822-0D02CE0C164A.jpg BA3B468D-1F63-4A5A-96B6-E606FD1CF806.jpg F0B6AAD7-0271-400A-BCD6-8F5C0C2F4B88.jpg 0C632223-771B-4C76-BD10-53DD98136381.jpg DEA73E11-9A96-43F3-A4E1-FDC21A57FE13.jpg D52B30AC-F568-4F73-B44D-9D5E8FF1B77F.jpg
    7315C499-4557-47CA-A885-FA8D72F30D62.jpg
The pump stopped at $100.00, but I restarted it and got a little more than another gallon in. It was running on fumes, as I had the tank empty to knock the hole in the bottom of it.

Yeah me too... First thought is that they should be vented, once they heat up that could get messy.

And I'm not certain hydraulic hose is good for gasoline?
