What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

A/C repair time, I replaced the compressor, condenser, dryer and oil.

Now I need an evaporator...

 

Is something you ran or factory? just curious

 

After 16 years, I decided to get wheels

 

I personally don't think there are any negatives to it other than you don't have an open diff anymore. I am able to enable/disable my ADD so I'm not truly locked all the time. This makes turning easier and isn't always binding things up. It does induce a good amount of torque steer though. I've gotten used to it now and don't mind it. You won't notice it's there at all when in 2wd. If you need 4wd while commuting I'd be careful. I've lived in the Rocky's for the last 4 years and kept it in 2wd unless I was leaving a stop going up hill. Once I got moving I'd go back to 2wd. There was 1 or 2 days I drove with it locked on my commute and never had any issues, they're weren't really any sharp turns to cause any understeer situations though.

I drove 6 hours home without a clutch once. Fortunately there were only 3 red lights and no stop and go traffic.

If it's resting on the clutch line I'd zip tie it somewhere else. I wore a hole in that line, hence my predicament above. Could have easily been fatal for me as it was an hour after completing Black Bear Pass.

 

What size socket is for the thing that plugs into the rear diff (not the housing) for the e locker? And does anyone know a part # for it?

also, can I drive without it plugged in or will gear oil puke out of the hole?



notice the hole under the connector where said sensor or doomaflotchy goes (edit, apparently its the rear diff lock indicator switch)

apparently according to Ih8mud the

$18 beck/arnley 201-1788 back-up switch

beck/arnley 201-1788 will work just fine so I'll just get a new one.

 

Seems like it Was just yesterday that I bought my truck new.

Where in the world has the time gone and how did these miles add up so fast!!

Who would ever thought I would still have it too.

What I do know is my truck runs better now than it ever has in its life somehow

 

damn dude, you drove 4,000 miles in 2 months (2/20/98 - 4/10/98)...that might explain why they add up so fast lol

 

Tried out my air bag set up today. It’s AMAZING how much difference it made towing. Airbags will always be my first purchase for every truck I buy from now on. Pulled my lifted cj5 with 38 15.50’s and a 360v8 about 50 miles today on curvy, mountain two lane roads. It done surprisely well for a 4 banger. I see a super charger in my near future though.

 

The red and yellow wires are for an LED light bar and for the switch for the painless solenoid. The wire loom thing I cannot remember off the top of my head.

 

I'll take a look tomorrow and neaten things up. Thanks for pointing that out.

Anybody have a link to abs removal/delete. Not looking for the fuse and bulb removal. Looking for a write up on running new brake lines and eliminating the abs box. Thanks

 

Had a 1970 cj5 with a Chevy 350 as my 1st vehicle at 16.

Those were fun days, that Chevy 350 broke the transmission twice and the axle once before I sold it tho.

Like my original post said. Not looking to disable temporarily. Im running new brake lines to the rear and need to remove the abs. Im adding a proportioning valve, line lock and cutting brakes which require completely new lines ran inside the cab from the master and then to the rear.

 

I've done it.

Not too bad but bit of a pain just wrestling the lines in and out. Best thing to do is just find or buy oem front lines for a non abs. They aren't very expensive. You basically just have to pull everything and then replace. I didn't pull the abs rear line. Just left it hanging on the frame.

Cool thanks ill go dig through and try to find it. I plan on using soft lines since i have to run it into the cab and back out and don't want to deal with flaring lines etc.

 

I've done it as well. Like @Blackdawg said, it wasn't difficult, just time consuming and a pain. I ended up making all the new brake lines myself, but if I ever did it again I would just buy the pre-made ones from a non-abs tacoma to save time.
