Has anyone installed a oil catch can in a 2019 Tacoma.

I had one in my 2008 and thought it would be easy to install a catch can in my 2019. I installed the bracket in existing holes on the inside of the fender. In the 2019, after installing the hood struts this will not work. Would be interested in seeing pictures of where you have installed your catch can and what type of bracket you used. Thanks for the help.

 

I put nearly 400,000 miles (each) on my two 1st gen Tacomas with no 'catch can.' Still wasn't even adding oil between 3,000 mile oil changes.
What is the perceived benefit of these devices?

 

Dont mean to hijack your thread, but what struts did you use? I haven't found any that use factory holes.

With the port injection it shouldn't have an issue without a catch can.

 

Redline struts. They did not use the factory holes, but the bottom bracket for the struts prevented me from using the factory holes that I used on my 2008. Plus the holes were slanted up which threw the install off.

 

I put one in mine and am currently editing the video. I think I was the 1st one to put a catch can on a 3rd gen Taco. I just re-did it the other day to change it over to plastic lines.

That's not true when it comes to DI engines, which we have.

 

Care to explain why you think that way? Not trying to start a war or anything but one word answers are not very convincing.

When the port injection is on. I'll admit the port injection can help reduce coking of valves, but it does not run all the time.

 

It doesn’t need to run all the time. Even if it only runs once per drive cycle, it would be enough to clean the valves. It’s not like a turbocharged car that is pushing a lot of oil through the crAnkcase system anyways.

 

Once the oil is baked on its not coming off. We don't know if its enough to clean that valves, you don't know and I don't know. No one really knows except maybe for Toyota and they have a different thought process that we do.

Any car that creates boost (supercharger or turbo) will create more blowby, but a NA motor still creates blowby unless your engine is 100% efficient (I have never seen that)

Kind of like saying you really don't need an air filter if you are driving through clean areas? The catch can prevents (or minimizes blowby) from entering the engine. Why would anyone be ok with allowing dirty vapours into their engine?

 

just make sure to post a video when you drain your catch can. scientific method active!

 

I didn't understand the purpose of the catch can so I searched and found this video. Now knowing that the 2GR-FKS is Port and Direct injection, and the port injection cycles almost every time the engine idles, I think I will not bother with this mod.
