Thanks for the info. I already have a site for the weekend at a campground on Jocassee. I was just looking to take the long way home back to Asheville on Monday. I'm trying to basically find a route from the lake to take me toward Asheville.

You might be able to get on HPR and do some mild wheeling. I haven't tried going in from the south side, but I think it's possible to go in at a road off 11 come out on 178. @Matic might know.

Still got a section closed off due to the landslide at the pipe.

Looking at the map I think that's what I will do. It's just going to be me and my 9yo son so I don't want to get into anything too technical. Thanks for your input!

Check my 4th post. It has Gaia tracks for it and a video up to Jumping off rock
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...leep-setup-and-southeast-trip-reports.626580/

Horsepasture road is nice and easy but it has absolutely beautiful views along the way! It currently ends at Jumping Off Rock (still a nice 30-60 minute ride to get there). Make sure you get out and take in the view over Jocassee at Jumping off rock.

3-4 great camping sites out there as well.

Apparently the gate at the bridge was open this past weekend and auger hole. A group of local jeeps made it all the way thru to musterground.

The admin of the Jeep club said she only saw it open once in 4 years.

They ran into a patch of mud about 50ft long and several needed winches out.

She... wonder if that was the same Jeep crew we ran into before. They had a gal heading up the pack.

Very interesting about the gates. That definitely warrants a go look see.

Naw, those were beaters that we saw.
These guys organized and mostly newer jeeps with very few Cherokees.

If it was dry, I would try it in the Tacoma again just to say the prerunner made it.

It was quite the decision that I had to make when we left out of here on Saturday. Ultimately, with the rain, I would have rather had the winch on the trail vs having f/r lockers.

I almost had to use it on 2 occasions, luckily the skinny pedal won that battle.

I wouldn't venture Gorges/Chestnut mountain to musterground without atleast 2 winches in the group.

I saw that patch running from Musterground to Chestnut and turned around. I was alone and it looked sketchy. I also figured the gate would be closed at the river so I'm surprised it was open! I may have to head in from Chestnut and give it a go. Since the gate at the border is destroyed from a slide there shouldn't be any problems going all the way through to Musterground.

Interesting. So the trail from musterground to chestnut was after the big clearing at camp 5 or 6 that has all the spurs?

I doubt they will have another run out there so soon. Maybe we should plan something in the near future.

It's before those spurs. It's a spur off to the left (North.) I marked it in my GPS below. Where you see my trail end is the mud pit where I turned around. The upper right corner is the Horsepasture river where the other gate is to get back to Chestnut Mountain Road. I'm 100% down to run it soon!

This is what it looked like when I was there. The picture doesn't show the bumps/dips very well.

Would anyone be interested in making the run from chestnut to musterground this saturday? I've never been on musterground and never been past the bridge gate at auger hole. Maybe go from musterground up to chestnut. I'm open to either. @truckbeans @Matic or anyone else?
