What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Wasn't really just today. That would have been silly.

But-
- procured a used ARE DCU from Ranger.
- stripped its paint ( Citristrip)
- painted it (Rust-Oleum aluminum primer, then satin Black)
- installed it (6 bolts)
- slept in it (sort of)

It's not the prettiest thing on the planet, but the functionality is unbeatable for me. The fact that it's aluminum means it's super light and modifiable, the side opening panels give great acess to the bed, and its tall enough to sit up in comfortably. I can use the roof rack for project materials, sports equipment, Christmas lights, you name it.




Future plans:. Get less bad with an hvlp gun, paint the other white parts.
Decorate it with a kayak
Paint or maybe plastidip the roof rack
Add windows?
Add ventilation?
Disco ball
Speakers?
Interior lights

If have thought of it but never looked into it. I honestly think the needle port is better at holding pressure over time vs schrader valve. Where as i see the schrader valve leak pressure more often. Might be very difficult to find too.

Yep order from schmidty racing. Just be gentle the needles do bend or break . But you can do about a good amount of fills on one same port.

Finally lifted the taco
Put bilstein 5100s on all for corners with an icon 3 leaf pack. I set the front billies to 2.5 with the stock coils and it rides so much better
Bought the icon leaf pack for 80 bucks on offer up!!

 

Sounds like a sweet setup. Although I currently don't live in an area where i'll ever need 4wd while commuting.
I was more wondering about the strength of it and it's performance offroad. I haven't ever had a vehicle with a front locker and wonder about the longevity of them given they ratchet and can be violent in when they lock up sometimes.

If you wanted a real liner you should have done raptor or similar. Also much much more prep work. That stuff will flake off within a year. Not a thick enough coat either.

Also it's bothering me you didn't put bolts in the farthest holes on the list brackets haha

 

After being in my truck for 3 years there was hardly any wear on the locker. Not too sure how long it was in another truck for before he went SAS. I thought I had an issue with it not locking up but that turned out to be my tcase chain was slipping. I don't think I'd ever describe it as violent. I think the fact that it can ratchet should save Cv's a bit more than a selectable would.

Good to hear. I'll take that into consideration when I choose what lockers i'll be throwing in my diffs.

Well hope it works. I never had good luck with that crap. The bead coating is much better....for some reason.

Successful run this weekend with my girl. Can't beat getting out of town and avoiding everything, loved every minute of it. Need to buy some new shocks for the slug and get some v6 coils for more lift up front next. Truck continues to do great though, 2k more miles until I've put on 20k since my purchase in January

 

...And then, a trip-changing discovery. As we were wrapping up photos in this exact location - and frankly, as Mike was likely wondering how he could get around us so that he didn't have to put up with our shenanigans - I happened to glance down between the spokes of my rear driver-side wheel... and what I saw took the air out of my sails.

That part# 4' 1/4 hose and a zip tie to hold it up. You can drill a hole under fuel door and vent it next to gas cap.
