So I had new tires installed and a 4" lift. Went from 245's to 285's. Also went from 24.6mpg to 19.2mpg. 90% of my daily is on the freeway. looking to improve my gas mileage. I've read about chips, throttle sensors, better driving habits, tire pressure. i'm not sure i will find a way to improve my mileage, just asking if anyone with similar mods has found success? thanks

Only option that will/may help is OVtune. Problem is those wide/heavy 285's. The mpg's you are getting with those oversize tires is actually pretty darn good

19.2 isn’t terrible considering your mods.

19 mpg with 285s and a lift is good, could be way worse.

Custom sliders (1.75" HREW tube w/ 3/16" base plates). Custom front bumper and high clearance rear bumper (1/4" steel plate, 1.75" tube.) Apex 5500 winch w/synthetic line (36lbs) and required accessories for an underpowered winch (snatch blocks and extra line.) Tekonsha P3 brake controller, remote start, any-time-backup camera w/ front facing camera, Leer 100R shell (w/e-track single slot tie-down mounts for removable Yakima EasyTop.) Cat shields by CaliRaised. Husky liners, window tint, heated seat (passenger only.) Relentless bed rail brackets with QuickFists (shovel/axe/fire extinguisher.) Hondo Garage Un-holey vent mount. Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.

Are you just using the trip computer values or hand calculating? The trip computer is not calculating speed or mileage accurately with the change in tire diameter.

The larger tire contact patch (extra traction) and the gearing changes caused by a larger diameter tire work against mileage.

Once you do what you did to the truck you should stop caring about MPGs. Adding armor will make it worst, I get 15/16 on a good day. Smiles per mile now

I didn’t even get 19mpg stock! I’m lucky now if i get 16+ with my 265/70/17s. Mostly city driving for me.

I’m sorry if this sounds cheeky, but of course if you change the weight and torque ratio you’ll see mileage adjustments. You can return to stock I suppose. Good luck.

Post a pic a 4” lift is atypical.

You could gut out your interior, maybe even take off your bed for some weight reduction :notsure:

I get 19 driving like a snail. When I lifted and put big tires on my 4Runner I went from 18.6 to about 13mpg. I'd say you are getting good gas mileage for the mods. Also if using the computer mileage it might be off just a bit due to the tire size (you are traveling greater distance than it thinks ;) )

Just go back to stock and enjoy your god like mpgs and boring truck.... or deal with the drop in mpgs and continue to drive a kick ass modded truck.

    Choices choices.

Time to regear and rethink your patriarchal brainwashed notion of "good gas mileage"

MPG matter very much when travelling long distances without services. That’s not easy to do in many places (gas stations everywhere), but in others it’s a big concern (try the Canol
Road, NWT etc). One reason I run 265’s is I don’t want to tow a fuel tote like the 4Runner peeps.

Nope. Thats what I have done to my rig and thats the gas mileage I get. I think 60% of the threads on this forum are about this topic - no one has come up with a solution. Smaller tires would fix it. hehehehe.

You could add a row a Elon's batteries under your bed and mount a 100hp electric motor between your engine and trany as an assist. You would probably get 40-50mpg if you did that. Thats the best solution I've come up with.

My 2017 Off Road is bone stock, still the original factory Goodyear tires. I have 43K miles, all highway so far. You can see in my .sig that even at 19 MPG, you're getting better than I ever have.
