    Yup. The driver got taken away for a standard DOT post incident drug test...not really HIS fault it happened though so I figure that was just standard practice for any accident. I was surprised he even knew anything happened and that he came back.
    If I had to guess I'd say the first question the insurance people are going to ask them is "where are the maintenance records for the truck?" If they have them then they'll go after who ever did the last work on the truck and it they dont have them then they'll say "sorry, can't help ya"

    Free drug test is standard. There may be no blame placed. Sometimes "shit happens". It's a concrete truck not a space shuttle.

    Correct me if I am wrong but if the whole hub brakes drum and so on came off sheared at the axle and behind the ears ? If so I am guessing no inspection would catch it nor would tire or brake service?

    I was trying to piece that all together. She said the driver turned around and came back. If it was a standard 10 wheel truck he would have came to a stop. The tire in the picture is too narrow to be a steering tire. I'm thinking it may have been a rear tag wheel. We have some trucks here that have multiple drop wheels between the standard steering axle and the intermediate and rear axles. I seen one dump truck with 18 wheels and no trailer...that was the "dirt limo" from last year. Concrete trucks can get pretty crazy with more wheels to spread out all that weight. It all depends on the truck configuration.

    I just went back and checked her picture. That tire is a 22.5, a standard drive tire. The end of where the axle would normally be is hollow. I have never seen that before. I haven't seen every kind out there so I have no clue.

    Sorry to keep beating this horse, but that's just 1 wheel and, if it's a dual, there's no outside wheel. I can't picture what configuration the truck is.

    I was just wondering that. I've seen rear drop axles and I think they use a standard tube axle, like on a trailer, but why would the hub be splined? Keep the break drum from spinning?

    It was one of the "helper" wheels...not sure what they're actually called. The ones that they can raise up when the truck is empty?

    Montana must "Bridge" with that many axles …..o_O

    Either the castle nut holding the outer took a "dump" :help: or poor "PM" got it hot and it went onto "driving my life away" :goingcrazy:...No apparent grease or heavy oil inside that drum so catastrophic kinda ruled out :notsure:
