Bought the "SpareBumper"®

Bumped twice today, once parked and while waiting at a red light ..Scuffed paint on my bumper shield, they had dents on their hoopties, unbelievable.

 

Really tempting to slap one of these on a sparebumper:


Probably piss somebody off though after they bump it!

 

The Super Bumper may be ugly, but function over form.. It cost me $160 for the bumper. Priced the plastic OEM bumper rear step cover at $500..for a piece of plastic. Don’t want to even want to know what the OEM bumper costs. Insurance claim, truck down time avoided. Bumper remains immaculate as shield took the hits. Coloring the Magnum Superbumper scrapes with a black sharpie pen and calling it a day...Saved me the headaches from careless drivers. Installed my Magnum to keep careless tailgaters at bay, keeping cars from crashing under my lifted truck and saving my bumper. Don’t knock it unless you’ve tried it.Pseudo Professors please chime in...

 

I know this might be strong enough for collisions, but I think its a good thing just to stop parallel parkers from tapping the bumper. My garage is small, and my truck barely fits. If my garage was bigger, I'd put one of these on. Or something like this. Not that big flat plated one, but the Weathertech or superbumper or sparebumper. I was at a golf course once and came out and a Mustang GT had their front license plate jammed into my hitch stinger, like really jammed into it, punched a hole in their plate and damaged their bumper. If I didnt have my stinger in there, they may have run into the back of my truck. They must not have known they were jammed into me or they would have backed away, but didnt. Oh, and on my second gen, I got rearended and the parts needed to replace the entire rear bumper were all over a grand, without it being painted, it was a Sport. The adjuster was surprised at how expensive all the rear bumper parts were.

 

So I measured the distance from the bumper, and found it is roughly 4 inches. Apparently I’m bad at using the iPhone measuring app. I put some red reflectors on it for the time being.

All debates aside.......you guys drive in brutal areas!! Bumper cars. Wow. You did make me see a need, that's for sure. Maybe take it off on the weekends

The sad part is I've seen members on here complaining how slow people drive and how they like to tailgate them to make them move over. These Tacomas are not sport cars nor fast.

 

AMC, yes distance is approximately that. Correct me if I’m wrong, but there are internal spacers that you can remove to lessen the length/distance from hitch to plate.

 

@Lemmy68 yes there are the two thick outer buffers + 4 thin ones and 4 inner buffer that go inside the hitch tube. The unit is designed to accommodate the users desired length from the receiver. Obviously more protection is better imo.

Hey guys just wanted to follow up and see if anyone has any updates with their spare bumpers.

I made some reflective stickers on it and seems like people keep their distance for the most part. Of course there is always the occasional jerk on the road that gets on my tail. Makes me wonder what would happen should I come to a sudden stop...
Of course I’m not interested in playing games on the road.

 

Same here. I'll see speedsters come flying up on my a$$, then back off after realizing that big plate is designed to take a hit.

 

Where does the force go ?? In accident the frame or does the thing have some kind of recoil part for impact ?

 

Pro tip: don't get that, let the person rear end you and get approx $3000 in insurance money to buy a really nice steel bumper
