2016 3rd gen TRDOR with 6MT and base AC controls here. I’ve got a little over 70k miles on it and have owned since new.

Yesterday, my fan just quit and wouldn’t come on at all. I tried to restart, and checked fuses which were good. Took out cabin filter (which I’ve changed regularly) and fan began to work. Put filter back in and everything works again, but fan speed seems to change slightly all the time now, regardless of speed selected. My truck was delivered 05/16, so seemingly outside of the window of trucks with maintenance bulletin for new fan motor.

Has anyone experienced this? Is there Anything I should check or replace proactively to keep it going, or is fan dying a slow death?

    Thanks!

Call the dealer. Not all bulletins are excepted, sometimes the issues with other model years just hasn’t established itself as a pattern failure yet to meet whatever criteria exists for said issue.

If the same part and PN in another model year is covered and has the same symptoms, then I’d push Toyota to replace it.

According to another post here, it’s being referred to as a “service campaign” and my truck doesn’t fall into the VIN range. May be on my own.

Drop the fan (it's easy) and see of the blade is loose on the shaft, or if the blade is cracked in the center.

If it's loose, you can clamp it, and it will probably be fine for a long time. Else, you can replace it yourself.
