Mine is defective, obviously, and I was disappointed by ScanGuage's customer service, but I did get to troubleshoot a parasitic draw condition, which was instructive. I think the incremental draw was in the neighborhood of 120mA.

Spoke with Linear Logic (SG) (Mesa, AZ) this morning about the SGII on the 3rd Gen 2016 Tacoma; Trans temps in particular.
    1) I bought mine in 2010 and used it on my '02 with joy, though did not add any X-Gauge info, the truck was a manual.
    2) My SGII, being a Version 3.17, is WAY due for an upgrade. The tech I spoke with told me they are getting more users sending their SGs in for use with the 3rd Gen (2016).
    3) My SG is being sent today, Priority. Turn around is less than a week. But I anticipate talking with the engineers there in Mesa once the unit arrives.

Answer to your question therefore is "Unknown". But, it MIGHT me getting close IF NOT already up and running. I shall be in touch.

Well, I can tell you that UltraGauge is NOT for the 3rd gen. I bought the UG. I sent the following email to UG:

    Message:

Good afternoon. My Ultra Gauge arrived today. I plugged it in and set up the screen to show TRN in Celsius and Fahrenheit. The screen shows "err" for both. My vehicle is not listed on your exceptions page and your definition of the err is that it is normal to be temporarily displayed. The err is not temporary. It remains on. I specifically bought this product to read my transmission fluid temp so I don't have to jumper the OBDII connection port. Please provide the solution so I can utilize the transmission fluid temp or instructions to return the product. Thank you.

The pre-programming is for 2005-2012. The codes for the 2015/2016 were changed by Toyota.
Look for the codes on the Tacomaworld forum.

    Best regards,

    Steve

UPDATE since this thread seems to be one of the few I find with search about UltraGauge IN THE 1ST GEN SECTION.

At some point, the UltraGauge MX was released and this model supports custom gauges.

This model will now show trans temps for supported 1st gens with automatic transmissions (I think 2001-2004). See this thread for the configuration: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/gen-1-2004-tacoma-ultragauge-mx-transmission-temperature.581841/
