Hope this is the right sub-forum. Recently had this code come up (P0446) on a 2011 4cl Tacoma. Brought it to my general mechanic that fixes my car. They couldn't find anything wrong with the canister but they are not a Tacoma mechanic nor do they deal with many trucks.

Only have 80k miles on it, so not sure if the canister needs replaced. I read smoke-test can be useful. My mechanic had replaces a valve and emissions-test passed so it's fully inspected as of 2 weeks ago, but this code came on again after that. Disconnected the negative on battery, just to see, and yes it came on again. My mechanic recommended to take it to a dealer to see if canister needs replaced.

At this point I'd like to take it to a good tacoma mechanic or even dealership. Somebody that is reputable and won't rip me off but knows what they are doing. I live near Harrisburg, PA but willing to drive up to 2 hours so that includes Philly area to either a trustworthy dealership or mechanic with Tacoma experience.

    Thanks!

Unless your canister has physical damage it is in another part of that system .

your PO446 is the Evap vent control malfunction which could be the whole system it means it is either leaking or not purging when it should most likely leaking

It could be as simple as the gas cap or cracked hoses.

Have you checked for damage to the canister or hoses ??

Maybe Post in the PA Forum lots of people in the Harrisburg area .

Be good to know just how your shop managed to clear the code long enough to pass the emissions test

I would try to replace gas cap (get OEM Toyota) or maybe they sell a replacement seal for the gas cap first

I went through this with my Solara. Turned out to be a cracked hose. Smoke test bro.
