Nah - nothing as fancy as that - it's just a Formica counter top bought at the local big box store.

Stable in what way? Your shooting the tongue into the sub-top. I don't see one being more stable then the other. I'd biscuit join them on the miter but I just like overkill. lol

the boards don't expand and contract in length like they do across the grain so the butt joint will remain tight in a herringbone where a mitre is more prone to opening up

    Question for some sparkies.
Building a table that I want to have outlets on the 4 sides, can I wire them all together then wire them to a plug, so i can plug in the table to an outlet in my house or will I definitely blow something up or trip a breaker?
Most they are going to power is 4 laptops and 2-3 tablets. Also a tv.

    A thing or two...
You'll be fine as long as the outlets are wired correctly and the total current draw of everything plugged in is less than that of the breaker. You're basically making a custom power strip.

Yep. Very easy to wire them in line. If you think you’ll need more power just use some 12/3 wire so you will have an extra circuit in there. I have a problem with overdoing electrical on all my projects so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Yeah I have figured that out the hard way on the front porch. Stripper won't touch it. We wanted a stained front porch...painted it is!

It's a combo laundry/work room, open to the single car garage. I had some leftover boards from the kitchen/living room install so I figured "why not?". I had to buy some additional boards but it wasn't much.

Thanks. It was a bit of work to cut grooves in the end of the boards to accept the tongue of the other board but once I got the saw set correcty it went quick. It's been a few years and it hasn't moved a hair - still tight joints. Unfortunately other projects took precedent so I have yet to sand and finish the top. Not sure what I'm going to use...

A few other pics for those who might be interested:

The groove I cut in the end of the boards.

This is some storage under a hinged lid. If I were to do this over I wouldn't have done this. The weight is substantial and the chance of crushing fingers is high. Anyway, I bought the house from the son of the original owners (his Mom had just passed). They were the only ones to ever live there. I found this name plate - he was a Lieutenant in the Navy back in the day. I put it in the wall with some other things as a time capsule.

I made a space for a beer fridge and put an outlet in there. Sadly, it's filled with things other than a refer and beer at the moment.

I wish my garage wasn't poured in like 30 seconds.. slopes down, dips, dives, all kinds of wonky. I built a portable cart on casters and self leveling feet

Why don't you cover the floor with self-leveling concrete?

It's not that big of a job, and if the floor is as bad as you described, it would definitely be worth the effort.

Def looked into it. It's not that bad but has a good slope and hump in there. I only really noticed when I built my cart it high centered haha

herringbone is my preferred method to turn corners with flat soffits , to cut the ends I use a laminate trimmer with a slot cutting bit and a speed square clamped to board as a fence
