So what color is the primer on these trucks?

I took the cover off my tailgate to install the power tailgate lock/opener. the inside of my tailgate was *not* Army Green as I expected. It honestly looked like Quicksand. My phone battery was dead so I didn't get a picture, but I could pull the cover tomorrow and get one probably.

It makes me wonder if my tailgate is from a 2019 Quicksand that was just resprayed at the factory? Or, is the primer that color?

Not a huge thing, just one of those things that made me go hmm?

I think the sealer (not primer) is different depending on topcoat. I think there is dark gray, tannish and a reddish. Undercoat influences topcoat color as many paints are metallic with a colorless binder. It would take umpteen coats of pure paint to fully cover with no trace of undercolor.

From the scratches i’ve gotten, i can tell you that the primer on a quicksand is white. But the inside of the tailgate wouldn’t have received a paint job, likely just a rust-proofing layer.

previously my ex had a black focus and i had a white one. Mine had black primer and hers had white!! I think they do it just to have scratches show :p

That's exactly what I saw. In the dark with some AG overspray on it, it looks like QS. Thanks, that answers my question.

I encountered the same thing. Sand color inside the tailgate and underneath my black 2020. Immediately thought it was a repaint.
