    Carpenter with a five lug

greetings folks, my dad just handed down a sweet little 96 taco five lug.
    128k miles

I want to use it for my work truck. That means utility cap and carpentry tools living in it with occasional towing less than 1000 pounds

Currently drives a bit like a tiny tow boat with a nervous great Dane inside...

So I understand get the Billies. I probably should replace the springs as well. Question is with what?

It will never go off road and I don’t need to be taller except for to be able to support the weight..

I saw something about a leaf helper bolt on???

Keep in mind the truck is not worth a ton and I don’t wanna put a ton in it. So A few hundred bucks is fine...

Anyway I did not even know until yesterday that the truck has both the rear springs and the leaf springs so clearly not my area of expertise...

    Thank you for any insight
    much appreciated

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I’d slap some KYBGR2’s on it then have a truck spring place re-arch and add a leaf and call it a day

They’re a less expensive alternative gas shock; I always liked them

Do you think it would be advisable to lift the truck a little bit?
    Like an inch?

Can I do that just with the shocks or do I have to get more equipment than that?

It looks like if I get the 5100 Bills that They have multiple heights...

I’m finding my trailer hitch bottoms out when leaving some driveways etc.

Again not looking for any off-road anything

    Thanks again!

I think you can put 6 lug stock 4600's on a 5 lug to gain a little height. @5 Lug Fury He should be able to guide you in the right direction

Just a thought but would air shocks or air bags work for the rear (since that is where the load is gonna be) since you're not off roaring it may be enough for extra support without swapping springs and you can adjust as the load requires

Got a lot of stuff lol
For load a 2" aal would help. You would then need a spacer up front to make it level (eBay 3" is my suggestion). As for shocks you can only put 6 lug shocks designed for no lift in the rear only after you add the aal. For the front most people run a set of Bilstein 4600 hd. If you find you still sag in the rear you can add an additional aal as long as the aal's aren't the same length. (Start with a long aal and if you need more add a short one). Good luck and post some pictures

Thanks For all the help folks

Turns out I can’t find 3 inch aal for my truck. Only the inch and half/2 inches.

One of the suspension companies recommended I get spring helpers instead

It’s supposed to add 1500 pounds of support. That seems like a lot and good

    https://www.suspensionconnection.com/1515t.html

It’s a couple hundred bucks any thoughts on that? I can get the Shorter Aal springs for 50 bucks a pop

The eBay people also said I could stack two sets of add a leaf ...

Thanks again for all the input

    J
