This build has been ongoing for a few years now so it's going to be fairly time lapsed. It's a 1960 Canadian custom VW beetle - translation it was ordered as a stripper model giving it some unique features or lack there of.

It's been a west (wet) coast car for most of it's life which means the more you dig into it the rougher it gets. Car has a fairly built up 2275, a built trans and some disk brakes, other than that it's pretty much you're standard early 60's beetle.

    Time for some pics....

Ok so this was unexpected. Car came with a lowered/narrowed beam and no shock towers, the answer to this was welding a nut to the sheet metal of the body and using it as a shock mount.....seriously?

Heater channels required on both sides... of course

Took out the beam to clean it up and prep for paint... and found the scariest splice that was covered in 12in of bondo

    IMG_0037.jpg

Had the pan blasted and replaced the beam with a new 2in narrowed unit

Had a manx buggy that I was working on and decided to sell. I had a built 2275 for the buggy but the purchaser thought it was to much engine for a 1200lbs buggy... fair enough. He wanted the lesser built engine out of the 60... so this was pulled

And replaced with this... not ideal and it set back the 60 build time

Super nice job on the resto. Suprisingly little rust for a 59 year old car. Thanks for sharing

Nice looking build, have an old buggy waiting in the shop to work on. Hoping to start working on it this winter.
