Put 255/85/16s on stock OR wheels and suspension

Did you get a spare and if so does it fit underneath?

I like the km3 a lot but they are taller than the coopers by an inch.

 

I did get a spare. Have not had time to wedge it up there so it’s sitting in the bed at the moment.

 

what BS were your F5’s? The 3.5 or 4.5? I would think the 4.5’s would fit.

 

I tried mounting the spare under the bed. It touched the exhaust pipe and diff housing. It’s going back in the bed till I can figure out what can be done.

Ok. I tried it again and i think i got it to fit. Does not touch the diff but it up against the exhaust rubber damper.

I gave it another go and will need to make an adjustment. I don’t like the way it is sitting and will put it back in the bed till I figure this out.

 

They were 4.5.
265s on a 4.5BS 8” rim and 255/85/16 on stock rims were similarly far from the liner, there’d be rubbing since putting the taller tire on the wheel with more poke would put the tire that much closer to where it would rub.

I did not. Theres a pretty lengthy and detailed write up on here (TW) somewhere. Thats the one I followed. I just couldn't find it right now Im just on my phone.

I used a long self ratcheting wrench to take the mechanism off. The rear bolt hole will be the forward rear hole and use that as a guide to drill the new rear bolt hole. I used a rubber mallet to bend the “ears” but bend them only about an inch as you need them to keep the tires away from the rear diff.

A lot of searching but found these gems. Now I am debating if i should go with the offset or just straight back. I just hope I don’t drill a hole into the bed or do some other larger damage.

Hopefully the 2nd gen has the same room as the third.
Also the toyo he put on is even larger than the km3, the specs say it's 33.5" tall.

 

Hey everyone - just got my '19 TRDOR DCSB and I'm wondering about a tire upgrade. I like skinny 33s so I was drawn towards this size. I want an AT - I travel the country and do lots of long drives, with some off road driving up to intermediate level. No crazy rock crawling. I like the ST Maxx but I'm afraid they may be a tad aggressive for what I do. My only option to get an AT other than the ST Maxx in this size is to go up to a 17" and run a 255/80, where I can get an AT3W, Open Country AT, Ridge Grappler, or ST Maxx. I'm wondering if it's worth getting new wheels for a slightly more suitable tire?

 

I think the coopers are a far better choice than the toyo or nitto and a lot of the guys here seem to rave about them.

If I don’t go with the km3 I’ll probably go with the coopers as well.

The ST MAXX are actually quiet for what they are. If you don’t want to shell out for 17s you should give em a try. I contemplated getting some 17s and the 255/80/17 wildpeaks but wanted that tall sidewall.

 

Rowan11b, I just came across your post on Page 90 after starting from page 1. Sorry if someone already asks you in a later page... have you run these CXT's in snow? I'm planning on going this route now that I have a 3rd gen. Always ran ST/MAXX and KM2 skinnies in the past but their lack of sipes leave a bit to be desired in New Hampshire winters. So I've always had a second set of snow tires mounted on other wheels. I still have those, but I'd like to get away from swapping every winter if I have a decent AT.

Really like the look of your truck with these. Any updates on handling/wear/noise? It's a commercial AT tread so I'm expecting it to be better than the other MTs. But if you read the Mastercraft website, they rank their own CXT as 'fair' in the handling and almost poor in the wear department.

I also have a set of 2018 4R SR5 wheels which are 17x7.5 ET15 so I could run the Falken AT3, but I think they would rub the UCA with that BS. Decisions...decisions...

 

And now they're $240/ ea.

 

What is the general consensus for winter driving in the mountains vs a regular width tire? I am currently on 265/75/16 and debating about going with the skinnier / taller set up in a few months.

I understand a larger tire will be better for deeper snow, How about for plowed icey roads?

 

Am I correct in assuming the guys with DCLBs aren't experiencing the spare tire hangups the SB guys are?
