Havent summed them up yet. I am maybe 30 hours into counts. 6 stations, 2 cameras per station, and about 15 surveys per station is the main data set. Anytime the biologists did their normal surveys with scopes and binoculars they recorded the start and stop times at each station. Then I do a count with my images that overlap with those times. We then exchange data and compare how well the cameras do to the real surveys. Methods study to see if the automated cameras (time lapse every ten minutes) could serve as a cheaper monitoring method. Another consultant is doing the same thing just with acoustic monitors. We then compare all three methods using the traditional counts by people as the control.

Now I am counting all cranes every 20 minutes for two stations for 3 weeks straight from 10-4 each day. Trying to highlight the advantage of the cameras and look at crane use of GMO corn vs. NonGMO corn fields via an average cranes per hour metric. The acoustic folks can determine crane call rates, so we are going to compare both our automated methods ( cameras avg cranes per hour vs. acoustics avg crane call rates per hour) to see if there is some correlation and highlight the advantage of these methods. Use/frequency rates aren't typically monitored by people because they would have to be out there all day everyday.

Probably geeked out to much there. I should of just said..... a lot.

Edit... I have my theory as to why, but will hold off until I get a answer.

There is hardly any non GMO corn planted around here since they started mixing refuge corn in the bag. And you don’t have to plant it separate. I changed about 4 years ago and was probably the last one to do so.

GMO corn might make them glow in the dark or grow a third foot.

    Johnny we have a winner!

My limited understand of GMO is that it was modified to increase harvest via decreasing waste corn that is lost during the harvest process.

Cranes and other birds eat this waste corn, so less waste corn (GMO) means less free bird food or more waste corn (NonGMO) means more free bird food.

We eat that GMO corn too. Earlier you told Shauna to put a couple in her grandkids beds as flu medicine.
