In celebration of Red’s 50th tank of gas, here’s the official MPG data out of Excel. For reference this is a 2.7L 2TR-FE Double Cab Short Bed SR 2WD. I don't have a reliable way of tracking City / Highway, so there's no data on that.

    Tanks: 50

    Highest: 24.1 mpg
    75th-Q: 22.27 mpg
    Average: 21.16 mpg
    25th-Q: 20.27 mpg
    Lowest: 16.2 mpg (included towing)

For a good while, the following chart showed a really nice bi-modal distribution, with peaks around 20.5 and 22. That’s what I’d say the “true” city and highway numbers are for my truck and my driving. However, that’s evened out over time. While these are “full-tank” MPG numbers, highest “single-trip” MPG I've noticed was something like 30.7mpg over 38 miles, IIRC. However, that was a real outlier.

    Misc. Stats:
    - Longest Distance on a Single Tank: 449 Miles
    - Cheapest Gas: $1.949
    - Most Expensive Gas: $2.779

    Capture.jpg

Edit: All of this is on 87.

Out of curiosity what is your full-tank? Like the pump shuts off full or filling all the way up to the cap full?

The pump will usually click around 18 gallons and I leave it at that, but I track from the receipt so the numbers account for that. The furthest I've run it to was 19.2 gallons, and it was claiming to have no range left (despite having a 21 gallon tank).

Edit: The 449mi tank was on ~18.9 gallons.

Thank you, that range is impressive. Now I'm going to be trying to hyper-mile my truck for the next few weeks

Where are you located and do you see a pattern showing lower mpg tanks during winter months?

Since our data is similar, I'll throw my gas mileage data out there also. 2TR-FE ACLB SR5 4WD. All 87 octane, with a good mix of city and highway. 64 tanks of gas, never tow. Throttle gently applied with a cruising speed of 65 or below.

    Max: 25.06
    Min: 16.9
    Avg: 21.56

I keep a record of my mpg. @ every fill-up. Mine has hit 20 mpg. one time within the 18 mo. I've owned it. It'd take a lot of figuring, but avg. would be appx. 18 to 18.5. 2013 reg. cab, 4X4, 2.7, auto. 2" lift & 265/70/17 tires. This little 4 banger seems to be straining most all the time, as it downshifts, a time or two, every time it sees a hill.

I’m in Florida and I see that I drove more highway during the cooler / less-hot months (presumably trips / holiday visits). This may explain why my winter mpg is actually 1-point-something mpg higher than my summer mpg. However, I don’t actually know the statistics to account for all the changes in driving habits and calculate such an effect.

What size tires are you running? I have the same truck in a '15 model with 265/65-17 and have never gotten over 20 mpg.

I'm guessing you don't get the oxygenated gas like we do in the northeast in the winter. Every EFI vehicle I've had drops 1.5 to 2 mpg in the winter due to the cold temps and winter gas.

Not sure about OP, but for my data I calculate it manually (as manual as a spreadsheet is I suppose).

With all due respect, I don’t like these charts bc they dont account for certain things. As the owner of a 2.7, here’s my take: (mind you I’m pushing 33s with a 3 inch lift and I have the 4 door 6 speed automatic)

No red lights - great gas mileage
Red lights and stop signs - not so great gas mileage

Whether it’s 30 mph or 45 mph, on a trip with little to no stops, i can get a solid 20-24mpg - on top of that, my speedometer is a little off because of the tire size, so I’m always going faster than what the speedometer says which makes the computer slightly underestimate the mpg.

If I encounter frequent stops, however, it can dip down into the 15-18’s.

Worse mpg Ive ever had was on the interstate with the wind in my face, stuck in 4th in cruise control at 68-70mph. It did not want to upshift, and when it occasionally did it would immediately shift back to 4th keep up speed. That trip got me 14mpg. I wasn’t towing or carrying anything heavy either.

I’m no mechanic, nor an expert. I think it’s a cool fucking truck, and I know it won’t let me down, but it’s missing something. Maybe it needs more power, maybe it needs regearing, I’m not sure, but I didn’t really trust the 3.5, so I’m looking back at the 2015 with a 4.0 and thinking maybe that’s the route I should have gone. I can’t help it.

gotcha i get way better gas mileage than that, that is why im curious how he was calculating it. i figure the mpg gauge is off by around .5 to 1 mpg.
