    Hey all,

I'm moving to northern Alabama (Huntsville) and I'm looking for recommendations for a good mechanic. Ideally a shop that can work on my Tacoma but also on my other (import) car. So basic things like suspension work, clutch replacements, maybe regular maintenance if I don't have time. Ideally a shop for car guys run by car guys.

In addition, also looking for a good offroad shop that specializes in trucks. Maybe this is the same shop as above, but often shops that know and upgrade trucks don't deal with other cars, so I'm cool with that. I'll be looking to put a bumper and winch on my Taco, and maybe some engine work too.

    Thanks for any tips!

Thanks! I'll post in that thread too if I don't hear back in this one.

I'm moving because I'm tired of the West Coast. I won't get too political here, but judging by your avatar, you can imagine how things are over here. I'm ready for some Freedom.

I know very well, born and raised in the SF Bay. I wouldn't exactly call it "free" here, some things are better, some not. Don't tell any of the guys I said this, but the thing I like the best about the South is the people.

The folks do make up the South! I lived out in the Bay Area for about 5 years after I got out of the Army in '99. Couldn't stand more than 5 years there, so I came on home to Alabama.

    Welcome @Metalnut!

Rocket City Off Road does a great job with off road work. Labor is about $80-100 an hour but worth it. Custom Trucks is another speciality shop. I have not had work done there but know labor is $100.00 an hour. If military, the auto craft shop on post can accommodate most engine work. Labor there is about $75.00 a hour.
