    Hello,

My name is Doogie. Been a long time Tacoma owner;this is my 3rd. Currently living in Richmond, VA.

I am currently going through a doozy of a pickle with my 2000 Tacoma.

I need some help with the tacoma frame rust extended warranty predicament. I think I might be the owner of one of the rare trucks that will qualify.

Does anyone have any info or threads that would be a starting point?

I can start another thread with details, in another section if needed, or I can give the low down here.

    Thanks for looking

The frame replacement program is only good for 15 years after the in-service date of the vehicle.

Unfortunately, 2000s no longer qualify...their time was up in 2015. The only one's that might still qualify are some 2004 models.

Also that being said, I think the replacement program was only for 2001 - 2004 Tacomas...the earlier model years were part of the Toyota buy-back program where Toyota would buy the truck back for 1.5x the KBB value and then crush it.

That program ended in the early 2000s unfortunately.

Yeah thats what I have been reading but I have documentation from Toyota, from 2009, extending the frame warranty for 15 years, with no mileage limit...at least that is how it reads. Does that change anything or are they still going from the date it hit the streets?

That program is for 2nd gen Tacomas only as far as I am aware (2005+ Tacomas)

I'd love to be wrong though, only way to know for sure would be to contact Toyota Corporate with your VIN and have them confirm.

Good luck OP! Might be time to just trade it in for a new Tacoma. Coat the frame to hide it. Screw Toyota right back.

    Welcome to The Forum!

You should confirm the frame coverage with Toyota yourself. You'll read many opinions on frame replacement coverage here on the forum.....

Thanks for the advice...I guess I am going to the "barracks lawyers" before I spend a long time on hold with some corporate office.

I would love to know if it truly will hold up. Personally, I don't think the rust is that bad but it just failed inspection for a hole through the frame, a diamond shape hole about 3.5" long by 1" wide. I an patch it up and try again but figured now would be a good time to look through the paperwork and read up in the situation.

It was inspected in 2009, nothing done: in 2011, frame undercoated and would be monitored. I am not sure where that leaves me but I guess its worth a try!

bzzr2, I absolutely would entertain your line of thinking but I am in the process of selling off everything and taking my family on the road for a few years; hence trying to get the old lawn ornament inspected.

I often wonder if the problem is more that the initial identification of what is found, hope not!
