My wife, little one and I are contemplating a move to Chattanooga to take an opportunity with the company I work for.

We will be visiting for a week the middle of October to check out the city as a whole but also neighborhoods in the surrounding area.

Would you mind taking some time and fill us in on areas to look into and areas to avoid?

We are looking for a decent size lot (have not decided on an actual size yet. we've looked at houses online with everything from 10,000 sqft to 4 acres). Age of the house is not a huge deal either. Price range is also something we have not locked down yet either as we have looked at houses from the $100k range up to $280k range. No HOA though...

The little one will turn 5 in January so schools will be something we need to take into consideration.

Commute will not be too big of a deal as I will be out and about in a truck most of the day anyways. But hints as to traffic patterns would be greatly appreciated.

That's all I can think of right now.

    Really appreciate the help!

Don’t forget about to oppressive humidity. It IS a factor.

Unless you want to send the kid to private school, downtown is really not a good option. East Brainerd around the mall area is a good middle/upper class area with nice school. Ooltewah is probably the most growing area at the moment and and option to find land. Soddy Daisy is right across the water and probably the best bang for you buck with land and houses. Schools are towards the upper end in the county. East Ridge is up and coming but Im still not on board with it. I can answer more questions if you have any.

No problem. You just want to avoid driving 75/24 around Chattanooga. It blows.
