Lately my FCA/FCW light will turn on as I’m driving(showing the system is off) and will stay off for 2-3 minutes then turn itself back on. I had it down to the dealer once and they said they could not find an issue with the system after running a health diagnostics. The first time it came with a message of “Forward Facing Camera Unavailable”, today it just turned itself off. Any idea? DF1A0F75-82F6-4816-8C4A-E1580805A68D.jpg

Any thing (road debris, heavy layer of bugs/bird shit) over the camera or sensor?

I had this happen to me the other day. Do you have a front facing camera installed near the TSS sensor or live in an area with a crazy amount of bugs? I've killed so many lovebugs with my sensor that it makes sense for it to glitch every once in a while

Direct sunlight can cause this, or if it becomes too hot.

    Stock everything.

I had the recall done, my sensor was one of the ones giving out the faulty “BRAKE!” warnings.

Nothing that I could see. Some very small bugs on the windshield. The previous time it happened there was nothing on windshield/or sensor.

No cameras or anything like that. Most of the bugs around here are out at night, all the small ones. I have a few small ones on the windshield.

It was only about 70-75 degrees today and partially cloudy.

Really though, it doesn't have to be hot. If the sun shines just perfectly onto the camera, it will create too much glare and the system will temporarily shut off.

Take it back to the dealer who did the recall.

If you can safely, or have a passenger snap a pic, then email to your service writer, and now theres documentation.

I have a photo and video folder on my phone of the times this happens. Planning to sit with the dealer when I do 10k service in a month or so. False brake warnings and tss failure messages are too common. Thankfully tss does not fire the braking system on these false warnings.

Thank you, the one time was night and the other time was during the day. Fingers crossed.

I did and they said “We can not find an issue. We have run health diagnostics and can find no issue or fault codes.” I said well I have a picture of it and they said well that doesn’t matter we have to see it. Thank you.

Thank you, I appreciate the help.

I do have a picture. As I came to a stop and snapped a picture(shown in post). Have not been able to grab the message that says “Forward Facing Camera Unavailable” as I’m usually driving. The dealer said it doesn’t matter if I have documentation or not they have to see it in person.

I would have to agree with you. If it fired the TSS braking system it would have most definitely caused an accident. I had a close call with a motorcycle(I mean close) he stalled in my lane(me northbound, him southbound) while making a last minute turn off a highway onto a side street. Granted it was night, but the TSS never fired or detected an object or warning or anything.

I had my first TSS error last week seemingly caused by late afternoon sun glare.

Got a short "BRAKE" alert on open desert highway with no cars around and the garnish was clean.

Garnish got coated with dead bugs later on in the week with no error.

First thing I'd do is just inspect the front sensors and just make sure that there's no physical obstruction (someone mentioned bugs above).

If you're unhappy with the dealer response, open a ticket with Toyota Corporate. Squeaky wheel time. Mention that your dealership was unhelpful.

I have. On multiple issues. And all corporate said was “go to a different dealer since you have had multiple issues with them” or “they are our partners, we do not own them. They are our eyes and ears in the field.” Nothing on sensors or windshield, clean.
