Just curious if the painting technique or quality is different on these? I have a 2017 with 44K miles, mostly highway. Not my first rodeo with trucks and yeah I get the whole, "adds character". After washing and adding a bit of spray wax yesterday I noticed several rock chips that were all the way to bare metal on the hood yesterday and the grill. Is that fairly standard with the 3rd gens? My last pickup had 139K miles and don't remember having that many.

Mine chips and scratches easily and deep.
My paint seems to be subpar.

yes, the water based paint on the 2nd and 3rd gens is extremely soft. I now clear film the entire front end on mine now.

Super white? The paint on my BBP seems pretty good, especially down low. My last Toyota was super white, and with no clear coat it chipped and faded badly no matter how much I washed and waxed it. Of course, I had it for 12 years...

Took my ‘16 for a paint correction last year and the paint depth was highly variable, doubled-up in some areas. That said, it was generally thick enough for a paint correction or two. I’ll grab some touch up paint next time i’m at the dealer and hit the chips with it

I've always found my Toyota paint to be a little more brittle than some of the other brands I've owned. My 2006 Tundra chipped in the rain I think, jkjk.
Volkswagens have been the best painted vehicles I have ever owned..

Can’t be any worse than ALL of my Honda’s (Fit, S2000, Accord and Pilot). Those things chip like a boss. I think most paint these days just isn’t made like the old days. My ‘96 Ranger has a handful of chips and it’s got 160,000K on the clock. My S2000 after 1 year of driving to work (mostly highway) looked like somebody sandblasted it with rocks.

I wrapped the entire front of my Tacoma and it has been worth every single penny so far cause that Voodoo shows every imperfection.

Yes the paint is thin. The clearcoat chips easy.

..and that right there is why I did full PPF on the single coat white paint.

I am working with Black so it is noticeable once it hits to bare metal. I just expected it to hold up a bit more after the dealer bragged about the clear coat protection.
