Is my Tacoma considered a TRD

Ok so I’m brand new to the truck world so don’t hate. I bought the 2019 Tacoma sr5 with the tow package and the guy at the dealership said it’s technically considered a trd (becuaese or different suspension) but that’s it. I was wondering what you guys thought about this. Is it a basic trd or not?

 

TRD is just a name used to categorize different models. So no, your SR5 is not a TRD model.

But, change out the suspension and I don't see much of a difference.

 

Nope. It’s just an SR5, the TRDs have different suspensions then one another. TRD off road has bilstens and sport has hatachi(same as SR5) TRDs have the bigger touch screen head unit and different seats.

 

To my knowledge there are 3 types of TRDs, the easiest ways to tell are the TRD offroad has a rear locker, traction control, and features geared for off roading. The TRD sport has an LSD rear and a hood scoop, as well as bucket seats, and the TRD pros are badged all over the place, and have fox suspension. There are many more differences, but these are some things that will help you notice easily. I dont really think theres such a thing as "basically a TRD" unless they put some kind of traction control in the rear and upgraded the shocks, but I wouldn't expect much more than maybe a suspension change from the dealer. If you upload some pics I'm sure you'll get your answer.

Thanks for the info guys, ya it sounded weird and I took it with a grain of salt thinking he just wanted it to sound badass. Going to be doing stuff to it over the years, gonna be fun. I’ll upload a pic tomorrow if you guys care to see it.

Its just a title, don't sweat it. The SR5 is a beast and laid the groundwork for the TRD. I was going to buy an SR5 but wanted the scooooooop!

Other than locker, which you can add when/if you regear (which you should for larger tires) there's no need to pay for a TRD OR, if you're going to lift and build it.
Coming from a guy that bought an OR, but it fit me, because I'll leave it nearly stock.

 

5 years and 5k in mods from now it won’t make a bit of difference what model you have

 

So close to ordering those stickers lol
