Trying to rotate tires before trip and medium pressure broke a lug nut!
Thinking when I had tires put on they must have used an impact to put the wheels back on.

Did the stud break when you were tightening the nut? Did you lube the studs and lug nuts?

Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me. Are these wheels meant to use acorn lug nuts or shouldered (like OE aluminum wheels)?

Stud isn't broke, the nut just sheared off at the very end. It's a spline type lug nut.

Seen a lot of broken studs, goober'd nuts, but never seen one break like that, damn! Aftermarket? Quite the conundrum...
Looks like a piss-poor design to begin with. Looks like a longer stud was required for proper installation to avoid just this type of failure.

That's what I thought too. I think he has the wrong lug nuts, but it's hard to tell from the picture.

It looks like the remaining piece of the lug nut is small enough that the wheel could still come off?

I think it’s the correct lug. If ya notice part of the hole is actually on the contour of the wheel so a factory lug with the washer usually has a perfectly flat spot to sit on.

I would agree, it looks like the acorn lug seemed to fit inside the whole and broke off basically clamping the brake but not the wheel.

Maybe we can get a pic of one of the other lug holes with the lug nut off.

OP, Do you have a photo of another stud on the wheel that you were able to get the lug nut off and maybe a picture of that lug nut?
