I'm new here so I may be repeating previous threads....sorry. 2019 V6 Sport model, 6 spd auto trans, 800 total miles. Love the truck except the transmission. Am I the only one whose truck hunts for gears when going up hill or even on a slight grade? Down shifts, then up shifts, then back again. Very annoying! Did see that Toyota is advertising "recalculated transmission shifting" on the 2020 Tacoma's. They must have had massive complaints. Wonder if we will see TSB to update older trucks?

It’ll get better as the truck learns your driving habits.

Should have bought a manual transmission best solution to your problem. The next best solution is to regear.

In all honesty it will get a little better after about 6500 miles, either way you will probably throwing money at it. Most seem pretty happy with the OV tune. I had the 2017 automatic, and now have a 2019 manual. Love the manual a lot better.

Yes. That’s normal. It gets better. Give it time to learn your habits and if at your 5k service it’s still intolerable, tell your service manager at the dealership. I took mine in at 3k since it was pretty bad. Problem fixed, hasn’t been an issue since.

They flashed the firmware, there’s a TSB to address the issue. I even printed the tsb and left it on the driver seat and handed a copy to the manager.

Hunt around the forum a bit, there’s a thread with a thousand posts about this issue

    OP:

In my experience, it is not so much that your truck will improve or change, but that you will get used to the power bands and dead zones and shift behaviour and your right foot will start to mitigate the present annoyance of the transmission automatically, without thinking. The truck does become better to drive (as stupid as this admittedly sounds) when you learn how to drive it.

TGIF day. After 3000 miles i don’t pay much attention to the trans. It seems to work very well to me. My 2019 was made in June of 19 so it may have up graded the EMC. Just got back from a 500 mile trip up and down the Oregon coast in lots of rain with the Nitto ridge grapplers 265-65-17 tires which worker flawless and avg. mpg was 23.6 55 to 70 mph . In the twisting mountain roads i run it in 4 S and that seems to really work well. Also i love the cruise control with the adaptive radar i almost never have to use the brake or the throttle.
