I actually checked out the price of the Para 3 on Blade HQ. And even though I'm not too impressed with it, I'll still have to buy one for $120. I just wish it was 3oz or less in weight.

Rule 9: Never go anywhere without a knife.

I'm all for concealed carry... carried since way before CCW permits. CCW seems more and more of a pia, as time goes by. Guns are bulky, heavy when loaded to the hilt. Lots of places where you can't carry, so what to do with it? Leave it in your vehicle? I don't like that. It's basically out of sight, out of my control. There's no way I can keep it from being stolen, and I won't have it if/when I need it.

So I've always also carried a Blur, for those times and places I can't carry a gun. It's a decent size, one hand flip open, razor sharp, easily concealed in my jeans watch pocket by nothing more than a T shirt. I can have it out and open while some loudmouth is spewing shit, and he'll never know it. I don't have a problem with hands on CQB, in fact I prefer it. Every "shot" WILL hit home.. no misses, doesn't even have to be that accurate (but I do know where all the major arteries are). I'm slowly transitioning away from CCW.

    I carry per the situation.
My EDC is a Kershaw I found on Amazon for $25 with great reviews, about 1,000 of them. I like it because its quite durable and sharp, especially at the price point, and because of that i dont mind actually using it without fear of wrecking the blade. If i broke it, id buy another in a minute and recommend it.

If im in the woods around the house, maybe want a longer blade and its wet out, my morakniv companion stainless steel is hard to beat. Dont let the price point fool you, this may be the best bang for the buck blade out there.

I wrote this and two hours later I get a message there was an armed invasion (knife) 3 houses down from me. I rushed home to check on the house/dog as they hadn't caught the guy yet, and said knives were my only protection as i didn't have any firearms with me. Always have a knife, it may be all you have. I had my large 10" knife ready as i scoured my property until i could reach my reinforcements. All was good, and they think they caught the guy.

Thanks to our reasonable knife laws (carry whatever you want, wherever you want, but don’t threaten anyone with it, and no switchblades) all summer, I carried this:

Not always necessarily true... or they wouldn't have come up with the 21 Foot Rule. A lot of trained people can draw (and use) a knife faster than most people can clear their gun from it's holster.

I carry a VERY well used Benchmade Triage 916, everyday for at least 7 or 8 years. It’s very worn but works great. Kind of a just in case knife for me.

Folder or fixed blade? Easier choices for the folders. Fixed blades... tons of choices.

    Fixed blade:
Take a look at Bark River Knives (A2 or 3V tool steel options) for starters. Google "DLT Trading".

Also look at Battle Horse Knives, LT Wright Knives, Mora Garberg in carbon steel, Cold Steel SRK in carbon steel, Randall Made Knives in O-1 tool steel, etc, etc....

    Folding knife:
    Benchmade Super Freek 560BK-1
    Spyderco Gayle Bradley 2
Buck 110 in 5160 spring steel
Traditional slipjoint folders by Great Eastern Cutlery

I just put a Civivi OD Baklash in my pocket this morning. Thought I would try it since I had bought it in December and hadn't carried it. I like the heft of it. Nice clip for deep carry. Flipper action is a little weak. Need to work on that a little bit.

False. It's all about training and the person with a gun starts with a slight advantage.

Several problems with the 21' rule. First it doesn't take into account lethality. Single shot stops are somewhat common, while single cut stops are rare. Second it assumes I'm going to stand there like a tree while the person with the knife stabs me.
