2019 2.7 runs rough when cold

Barely over 1000 miles on my 19 AC 2.7 auto 4x4. When you start the truck up in the morning without letting it warm up and take off, it’ll spit and sputter going down the road for about 1/2-1 mile. Then it clears up. IMHO I think it’s unacceptable but I don’t want to take it to dealer for them to poke and prod at it and find nothing or tell me it’s normal. I want to wait for a check engine light to come on so we can make this process simple as can be. Does any other 3rd gen 2.7 owners have this same issue ? Did it go away? Was there ever a problem you found ? Seems like a fuel/spark issue to me. TIA

I have the same vehicle, runs like sewing machine, cold or warm. I understand the dealer thoughts, but it’s new, give them a chance to look at it.

I had a 2016 SR 4cy 4x2 access cab and I now have a 2019 SR 4 door 4cy 4x2. If you start and go, they both sputtered like you had a clogged fuel filter for about 2 minutes. Only way around it is to let the engine temperature get to normal. Then it will run like a champ. I feel your pain.

My 2015 2nd generation with the same motor did that for about the same length of time or a little longer when it was new but cleared up after I got some mileage on it. It would sometimes pop back when first start up. I think it was either the valves seating themselves or a VVT plunger sticking a little before finally loosening up but it runs great now after break in. It has never been back to dealer for nothing - just an oil/filter change by me annually.

My 2 cents: that 2.7 is bulletproof... it will last forever... just make sure it has oil on it... if I had that kind of issues on my 3.5 I would worry but being 2.7 I wouldn’t...

On the other hand, I had a 3rd gen 2.7 for 3 years and I would not describe it as rough... but maybe I just heard it and sounded normal to me...

I had a 2007 2nd Gen 4cy and never had the problem. It seems to be a 3rd Gen 4cy thing. The only thing I can figure is the new (2016+) transmissions. My 2016 had 60,000 miles and my 19 had 20,000. Had the issue since day 1. Whatever needs to warm up in that transmission is the culprit

Don't get me wrong, I love the 2.7 trucks. I let it warm to normal and it's fine. I can deal with it knowing that is the only thing that is quarky with the truck. I love my truck.

^^^^How does the transmission make the engine “spit and sputter” as per the OPs query?

Forgot to mention all mine were automatic transmission. My spit and sputter is like the transmission is trying to figure what gear to be in on takeoff.

'17 2.7 has 7k on it now; Never an issue. Runs like a top everyday, hot or cold, and has since day one.

I guess in my mind “lugging”, due to the wrong gear, is a little different that “sputtering”, but it’s likely just semantics.

OP sounded like his engine was running rough, not lugging.

Does it also do this at idle?

It did for a few days. Well , not as noticeable I should say. Had somewhat a rough idle , then kinda went away on its own. Still have the rough running for the first mile or so. I was hoping it was just some bad gas or a break in issue but I’m on my 5th tank now.

I'll try to take a video tomorrow of my full instrument cluster and windows down to get sound on my initial cold takeoff to work.
