So I did the install what like the others on here I am very happy with how it turned out and how it looks so slick. My question now is why am i not getting any lights while i use it (I have not hooked up a trailer yet as i haven't picked up my new trailer yet) but as far as i can see everything is saying that while its learning its direction of travel "active calibration" it should be flashing blue and green until it is a solid blue. While driving and applying the brakes I am not getting any lights at all. The only light i get is when i push the knob it "breaths" blue. is something wrong or will all the lights and stuff only happen when a trailer is hooked up?

If you don’t have a trailer plugged in it will still calibrate, but there is no indication. (There is a section in the manual that calls that out.... I missed it too at first). It’s in section 2.4 in mine under notice at the bottom.

What he said. It also took me a few trips with a trailer before it fully calibrated.

No need to use aftermarket pigtail ground and scrape paint and make hole for screw. Cut and tape off...

I see that now! Thanks for the post. I must have missed that when I was skimming through the booklet.

I wouldn’t do that. The early versions of the plug in harness did not have that ground ring, and some of them had problems with melted wires and such, so they discontinued that version and switched to the newer one with the grounding ring. I was able to find plenty of other grounds under my dahs that went right to the body, so I put it under one of those bolts.

So you're saying the vehicle has a faulty ground or the aftermarket pigtail?

I don’t know exactly which one, but I know it’s been discussed here. I’d ave to do some digging to find the threads again.

Maybe because it calls for a 25~30A and the vehicle has a 40A. If you notice the ground on the controller is for itself (control board).

That’s fine, I’d rather take an extra 30 seconds and hookup that ground, better safe than sorry. You do as you wish.

o_O...The post was to prevent scuffing a new vehicle, you used a bolt without scuffing:thumbsup: and the meltdown was a different brake controller.:burp: and the vehicle has a 40 amp fuse, no mention of anyone lowering it to the controller used requirements...:anonymous:

Okay now... help an old man out here. Not 2 hours ago I ordered the menu in the first post, now I’m seeing links to dual terminated wiring harnesses and comments about bad grounds. Is the dual terminated harness the concern? If not, I might try and edit my order first thing in the am and get the terminated version instead.

Dual grounds don't hurt. Find the bolt @jwilson2899 used....ask him for a pic to enlighten all who read. And get a 30 amp cartridge fuse (pink)[Low Profile Jcase] to replace the vehicle 40 amp (green).

Is the later linked dual terminated harness easier to use? I can solder, but am willing to pay a few bucks to not have to.

I’m not following this later posting. The harness shown in the OP is I believe the latest version and comes with a ground wire. Why wouldn’t you ground it? Tie it into a bolt, scuff the sidewall behind the kick panel (as I did)... whatever. It’s an extra measure of safety and it works.

    Am I missing something?

If anyone is planning on doing this install, send me a message. I have ready to use harness to connect the Redarc controller to the Tacoma plug that I removed from my truck. I moved the Redarc over to my new truck, but the plug is different, so I bought the Redarc adapter needed for that truck, so I’d be glad to let this one go to a needy and deserving home.

Does it matter what orientation the controller box is in? (Ie - face up, level, etc)

Edit- after some more digging through the thread I see orientation is not important.
