I thought I'd try to install a speed bleeder on my clutch slave cylinder since it makes one man bleeding a snap (with brakes anyway). I had a small disaster when I pulled out the bleeder and tried to install the speed bleeder only to discover it has the wrong threads.

Anyway, after screwing around before reinstalling the original bleeder, I managed to drain a lot of fluid. Now gravity will not feed fluid through the system from the reservoir, and traditional two man bleeding will not produce any fluid at the slave cylinder bleeder, so I have a bunch of air in the system.

So, what do I do now? The clutch line has a high spot in the center where bubbles of air will collect and I am not sure how to get the air out. How do I proceed with fixing this?

    Thanks, need some help guys.

Try blowing fluid in from the slave cylinder. Reverse the bleeder pump and put clean brake fluid in the catch reservoir. It'll push fluid into the system from the bottom, and have someone monitor it from the top

    Get an automatic....

haha, if the only breech in line is at the bleeder I'd think that with a little fluid you could just burp it like brakes eventually purging the air, does it still build pressure ??

Pump the pedal a bunch of times..shove something long enough to shove between the pedal and the seat to help hold the pedal down..get out and open the bleeder. This will take a while . Or get some help from someone to pump and hold the pedal for you while you open and close the bleeder.

Edit: when I mean it will take a while it...I mean it will take many cycles of pump the pedal and opening and closing the bleeder..

OK, so a normal technique, but have patience as it will take many cycles. I'll try that tomorrow. Thanks.

seriously though get a buddy to help you out either pumping the pedal or hitting the bleeder, it'll go alot faster, as far as brakes go, i always do the 8 & hold routine always works for evacuating air...good luck

An old Ford trick we use to do on the Rangers and explorers was to jack up the rear of the truck as high as you could get it and it worked well for stubborn bleeders . I cant see why it wouldnt work on a Tacoma considering the placement of the clutch master .
Jack it up in the rear , fill the master resevoir full of fluid and lightly loosen the bleeder on the slave . Wait about an hour , then try building pressure again .

If you can't get it bled with the above methods, a vacuum brake bleeder or pressure bleeder should do the trick for you...

This, if everything else fails, actually it's the last reasonable option

I had this problem with a motorcycle brake master cylinder it wouldn't bleed So I bought a big syringe at a livestock store.I backbled the system. I not sure if your clutch pedal needs to be pushed down or not. Take the syringe attach a piece of clear vinyl tubing, make sure your clutch master cylinder is half or less full. The vinyl tubing needs to fit over your bleeder on clutch slave cylinder. Place the tubing into brake fluid suck the syringe full of fluid place the tubing over the bleeder, open bleeder push a syringe full of fluid up to master cylinder close bleeder before you remove the vinyl tubing, check your master cylinder for fluid level this might take a few tries to get air out but it works.I paid $2.99 for the syringe.

Thanks guys! I have my clutch back. Using a combination of vacuum to get started and then patience for about 15 reservoirs worth of fluid, I was able to get it bled.

Thought I would add to this thread as I had the same issue when replacing my slave the other day (6 speed).

After many methods (two man bleed, vacuum bleed, gravity, tipping truck up, blocking the slave, etc), I could only get about 20% of pressure. What worked for me was reverse bleeding by compressing the slave by using the clutch fork. I pried the clutch fork off of the slave to allow the slave to completely retract. Doing this once gave me almost gave me almost all pressure back. A few more times and I had all my pressure.

Might help if someone else runs into the same issue.

    Step 1
Compress slave, force any air into reservoir
    [IMG]

    Step 2
Pry clutch fork off slave to allow piston to completely retract to allow fresh charge of fluid
